40 years on ...................... After the double set in Amsterdam, a day off and then a gig in Cologne, Elvis and the band reach Frankfurt having passed Belgium entirely (sorry, Tweety!). I'm not sure if this is a complete show or whether Elvis had decided to abandon starting off with "New Amsterdam" as a solo performance but this recording starts off with a band version of "High Fidelity" and then follows that with "Lip Service" and it's obvious that Martin Belmont is already on stage by this time. "The Beat" follows and it's clear in this instance, that the song is quite heavily reliant on the guitar work of Elvis both in the studio and live and Steve Nieve's absence is barely noticeable for once. The setlist is a little shorter than previously but Martin does provide a very heavy solo during "Detectives" and if you listen closely, you can hear Bruce, trying to mimic some of his little signatures. There are a couple of lulls from the brash guitar work, although "He'll Have To Go" starts with a very strange guitar introduction (compare it to John McFee's stunning intro on the Live At The Palomino show from 1979) and this has the audience singing along nicely! The finale seems to come around rather quickly after "Detectives" but overall it's not a bad audience recording though it needed slowing down particularly towards the end to keep it in pitch. Received in trade during the eighties, original source unknown but thanks to whoever made this recording.
