Trying to track down April 23, 1987, Rutgers University

Hi John,

I'm trying to track down a bootleg of the April 23, 1987 concert at Rutgers. I worked one of his spotlights in that show, and I remember it as one of the most amazing sets. My own bootleg died years ago. Any leads? Thanks for your help, and the great work on this site! -- Pbromberg 17:55, 17 February 2010 (UTC)

I'm tracking down the files now. By the way, was this show at the main Gym in New Brunswick, or the Livingston campus in Piscataway? -- JohnH 19:48, 17 February 2010 (UTC)
Thanks John, this show was in the Livingston Gym on Kilmer/Livingston Campus. I recall that it was called "Elvis Costello: Almost Alone". He had a big spinning wheel that had all of his songs listed, and audience members spun the wheel to choose which song he played. As the night wore on and "Alison" still hadn't come up he cheated and stopped the wheel on Alison, to the delight of the audience. This was also the tour where he came out as "Napoleon Dynamite". One of the best shows I ever saw. Much of the crowd had left by the 3rd encore and missed it! (the house light had been up for a few minutes.) Thanks again for your help! -- Pbromberg 21:31, 17 February 2010 (UTC)
These files have been located. The link is posted on the concert page: Concert 1987-04-23 Piscataway -- JohnH 04:18, 21 February 2010 (UTC)

How to modify "Lyrics" ?

Hello John,

I would like to correct some lyrics.

(eg: in No Dancing

He finds that her brother’s not so easy to please

which is actually sung, instead

He finds that the girl is not so easy to please)

Is it OK for me to proceed by myself? Or do I have to discuss with someone before to do so?

In case I can do it by myself I don't really understand how Lyrics are input. Where is the page where lyrics are? The symbols {{ before and after the song title means it goes to song template. But I can not find it.

Thanks in advance for your help. Kind regards, Christophe

Hi Christophe,
I think the place to start is on the discussion page for No Dancing. There could be a reason for the difference, and if anyone knows the answer, that's the best place to discuss it.
The link for lyric templates is usually at the bottom of each song page under "Internal links", and looks like this: Template:No Dancing.

Hi Christophe,
I see what you mean. The lyrics are wrong in the Chords section. I think if the main lyrics are right, and the Chrods section has them wrong, then it is fine to correct them so that they are the same. It doesn't make sense to have them different.

Hi JohnE,

Last Sunday, I have input Chords section for No Dancing. There was nothing before. I have input these Chords with lyrics I think to be the "good" ones. But as you suggest, there is no meaning to get different lyrics in "Lyrics" and "Chords" section. So I will modify Lyrics in "Chords" section so that they are in line with Lyrics in Lyrics section. Then, I will discuss on the song page to get agreement to modify song template. and then (if agreed by community) I will modify Lrics in "lyrics" section and lyrics in "Chords" section.

Kind regards, Christophe 20:52, 24 February 2009 (UTC)

The Sugarcanes Live recordings

Hi John

You mention audience recording exist for the shows. I've check dime etc but can't find any that have been up there. Could you point me in the right direction to find these recordings.

Hi, John,
The recordings are not circulating as yet, but they're mentioned by other EC fans on the Forum. -- JohnH 15:54, 11 June 2009 (UTC)

File Deletion

Thanks for deleting the duplicate file. I couldn't figure out how to do so myself. What's the secret? - DaveP

I think File Deletion is an admin-level priv.
Well done on the artwork btw, as well as adding it to the concert pages. -- JohnH 18:54, 15 September 2009 (UTC)

Before I Get Too Old

Hey, John, thanks for the edit on "Before I Grow Too Old"/"Silver and Gold" in tonight's setlist. The Flip City history of this one had slipped my mind when I added the title Joe Strummer used for the Streetcore version. What a great tribute to both Joe and Bobby Charles to cover this....

Cheers, Bill

Thanks Bill. Did he introduce the song before playing it? -- JohnH 05:33, 24 April 2010 (UTC)

A Voice in The Dark

John,

thanks for tidying this up for me. I found the full lyrics on ElvisCostello.com just after you did. I was posting details of the new song on the fan forum while you were at work. Thanks generally for tidying up after me. I hope my contributions (that can be rather random) are moving things forward rather than backward...
