Hi John,
John,

I'm trying to track down a bootleg of the [http://www.elviscostello.info/wiki/index.php/Concert_1987-04-23 April 23, 1987 concert at Rutgers]I worked one of his spotlights in that show, and I remember it as one of the most amazing setsMy own bootleg died years agoAny leads?  Thanks for your help, and the great work on this site! -- [[User:Pbromberg|Pbromberg]] 17:55, 17 February 2010 (UTC)
in order to make the Home Page Wiki even more the comprehensive source, for all things EC, would it be appropriate to add a section on EC's film or TV appearances? I know you can find these through IMDB, but we could add links to songs (e.g. his appearances in the Austin Powers movies), DVD releases, soundtracks (e.g. Straight to Hell)We could add links to DVD releases in the Shop. The TV appearances would be for dramas or sit coms, rather than the usual Letterman or Jools Holland appearancesI have in mind stuff like Scully or The SimpsonsWe used to see Alan Bleasdale (who directed Scully and the film No Surrender) waiting outside the stage door of the Liverpool Philharmonic after each EC show.

:I'm tracking down the files now.  By the way, was this show at the main Gym in New Brunswick, or the Livingston campus in Piscataway? -- [[User:JohnH|JohnH]] 19:48, 17 February 2010 (UTC)

:: Thanks John, this show was in the Livingston Gym on Kilmer/Livingston Campus. I recall that it was called "Elvis Costello: Almost Alone".  He had a big spinning wheel that had all of his songs listed, and audience members spun the wheel to choose which song he playedAs the night wore on and "Alison" still hadn't come up he cheated and stopped the wheel on Alison, to the delight of the audience. This was also the tour where he came out as "Napoleon Dynamite".  One of the best shows I ever saw. Much of the crowd had left by the 3rd encore and missed it!  (the house light had been up for a few minutes.) Thanks again for your help! -- [[User:Pbromberg|Pbromberg]] 21:31, 17 February 2010 (UTC)

== How to modify "Lyrics" ? ==
John,
Hello John,

I would like to correct some lyrics.

(eg: in No Dancing
''He finds that '''her brother’s''' not so easy to please''
which is actually sung, instead
''He finds that '''the girl is''' not so easy to please'')

Is it OK for me to proceed by myself?  Or do I have to discuss with someone before to do so?

In case I can do it by myself I don't really understand how Lyrics are input. Where is the page where lyrics are? The symbols {{ before and after the song title means it goes to song template. But I can not find it.

Thanks in advance for your help. Kind regards, [[User:Christophe|Christophe]]

:Hi Christophe,
:I think the place to start is on the [[Talk:No Dancing|discussion page]] for [[No Dancing]]. There could be a reason for the difference, and if anyone knows the answer, that's the best place to discuss it.

:The link for lyric templates is usually at the bottom of each song page under "Internal links", and looks like this: [[Template:No Dancing]].

:-- [[User:JohnH|JohnH]] 22:18, 23 February 2009 (UTC)

::Hi Christophe,
::I see what you mean. The lyrics are wrong in the Chords section. I think if the main lyrics are right, and the Chrods section has them wrong, then it is fine to correct them so that they are the same. It doesn't make sense to have them different.
::--  [[User:JohnE|JohnE]] 09:12, 24 February 2009 (UTC)

Hi JohnE,

Last Sunday, I have input Chords section for No Dancing. There was nothing before. I have input these Chords with lyrics I think to be the "good" ones.  But as you suggest, there is no meaning to get different lyrics in "Lyrics" and "Chords" section.  So I will modify Lyrics in "Chords" section so that they are in line with Lyrics in Lyrics section.  Then, I will discuss on the song page to get agreement to modify song template. and then (if agreed by community) I will modify Lrics in "lyrics" section and lyrics in "Chords" section.

Kind regards, [[User:Christophe|Christophe]] 20:52, 24 February 2009 (UTC)

== Before I Get Too Old ==

Hey, John, thanks for the edit on "Before I Grow Too Old"/"Silver and Gold" in tonight's setlist. The Flip City history of this one had slipped my mind when I added the title Joe Strummer used for the <i>Streetcore</i> version. What a great tribute to both Joe and Bobby Charles to cover this....
I have been trawling Youtube and similar adding clips to the gigography. This one is a puzzle:

Cheers,

: Thanks Bill. Did he introduce the song before playing it? -- [[User:JohnH|JohnH]] 05:33, 24 April 2010 (UTC)
It has a helpful title page showing precise venue and date. The only problem is that the venue is California, and the date comes in the same week when EC was playing in London and Cardiff.  There is nothing listed in the gigography for this date.

It is possible that he flew seven hours across the Atlantic for this event, then another seven hours straight back again, but it does not sound likely.  Another possibility is that this clip is from the concert at Warner Brothers listed in the gigography on [http://www.elviscostello.info/wiki/index.php/Concert_1989-04-26 26 April 1989].  However, the set list for that concert (and the bootleg recording that exists) don't include this song.

Do we need an "apocrypha" for material to be included in the Wiki where the origins are dubious?

thanks for tidying this up for me.  I found the full lyrics on ElvisCostello.com just after you did.  I was posting details of the new song on  the fan forum while you were at work.  Thanks generally for tidying up after me.  I hope my contributions (that can be rather random) are moving things forward rather than backward...    -- [[User:Nick Ratcliffe|Nick Ratcliffe]]

Thanks for the heads up about the naming question. My practice is to defer to the most recent info available, which is why I initiated the change, but that's been superseded by the official site's reuse of the "Condemned Man" title, so I've undone my change. By the way, I'm still trying to puzzle out why different sources vary on the length of some of the songs on the album, but that's more for my own sensibility than for adding information to the wiki. On the other hand, I haven't noticed any reference here to the Lupe-O-Tone 78s that were pressed as part of the National Ransom promotion. Should this be added to the wiki? I've personally been reluctant to add it as I haven't actually seen even a picture of one yet.

== Rob Wasserman Trios Gold CD question ==

John,
I noticed that the gold cd for Trios by Rob Wasserman doesn't seem to be listed on the site. (Here's a link to it's page on Amazon: [http://www.amazon.com/Trios-Rob-Wasserman/dp/B00001OH34/ref=tmm_acd_title_1 Trios [gold<nowiki>]</nowiki>]) I wasn't sure where (or perhaps if) it should be added to the wiki; should it get its own entry or be added to the existing Trios page?  Any suggestions on how I should proceed? Elvis plays live for Warner Brothers staff

John,

I have been trawling Youtube and similar adding clips to the gigography. This one is a puzzle:

Youtube

It has a helpful title page showing precise venue and date. The only problem is that the venue is California, and the date comes in the same week when EC was playing in London and Cardiff. There is nothing listed in the gigography for this date.

It is possible that he flew seven hours across the Atlantic for this event, then another seven hours straight back again, but it does not sound likely. Another possibility is that this clip is from the concert at Warner Brothers listed in the gigography on 26 April 1989. However, the set list for that concert (and the bootleg recording that exists) don't include this song.

Do we need an "apocrypha" for material to be included in the Wiki where the origins are dubious?

Nick

Condemned Man
