40 years on ............................. Although the U.K. "Bedrooms Of Britain" is drawing to a close, there is no let up for Elvis and the band and they continue to zigzag across the country moving on from the South coast to central Home Counties before hitting the Midlands, then the North West, the West Country, Wales and finally the North East. No flights here just slogging it across the highways and low ways of the British motorway network. Here in Hemel Hempstead, a mere 30 miles from the centre of London, we find our poor recorder missing the first three tracks , a judgement based on most of the previous manifold recordings posted here. So I'm guessing we've lost "Accidents Will Happen ", "Pidgin English" and "Hand In Hand" before the tape kicks in with "Shabby Doll". The recording was also over a semi tone fast so I've had to pull it into something resembling the correct pitch although there were variations all the way through the two cassettes. Once again this showcases the versatility of The Attractions and Steve's intro to "And In Every Home" reminds me of a lecture I attended on J.S. Bach where the speaker postulated that although he may well have written definitive versions of his organ pieces, he would have found it impossible to resist the urge to improvise on a theme - much as Steve does so many times in these concerts. There is a little intrusive audience chatter just after "Watching The Detectives" which distracts somewhat and the first tape flip seems to occur at the end of "New Lace Sleeves" so there's a little cut at the end. There's a spontaneous cheer at the intro of "Good Year For The Roses" - must be all those punks in Hemel getting carried away (!) "(What's SO Funny 'Bout) Peace, Love And Understanding" makes a rare appearance and finally there's a glitch at the start of "Big Sister's Clothes". I remember the frenetic rush to swap cassettes during an encore break or trying to gauge when about 40 minutes had elapsed and if I could fit another track in before needing to swap. The glory days of making ROIO!! Huge thanks to all the people responsible for these recordings and the dear friends mostly Dave and Tony who were generous with their time and patience trading with me all those years ago. Blessings on you all. Lineage : TDK C 90 (normal) cassette > Nakamichi DR3 (no dolby) > Marantz CD6000 CD Recorder > EAC > Nero Platinum for track separation and pitch adjustment > TLH > FLAC > you
