If you were the "Spinner" at an EC show...

Post by TX_Fan »

...and it landed on "Jackpot" (you get to choose any EC song).
Which would you choose?

After watching an awesome show at the Ryman in Nashville, my wife and I had this debate. Since it's the Imposters, I felt we had to eliminate songs from Painted from Memory, or selections like Almost Ideal Eyes.

We settled on...
wife: Riot Act
me: Tramp the Dirt Down

If I could chose ANY Costello song, I would choose:

1a. Romeo's Seance (partially because I am curious as to what an Imposters version would sound like)
or
1b. Impatience (curious what it would sound like without the horns; would Nieve do some magic to make up for them?)

If EC then asked for something that his band was more suited for:

1a. Jack of All Parades
1b. Step Inside Love
1c. I'll Wear It Proudly

"Fallen" with just a piano accompaniment. 'Tis the season!
"....there's a merry song that starts in 'I' and ends in 'You', as many famous pop songs do....'

As far as any EC song, I'd like to hear "Sparkling Day" live.

If limited to songs that have appeared on the Spinning Songbook so far, I'd choose "Let Him Dangle."

Good point. Why is he not playing this? Even though the movie was a flop, it's new and fresh. Let's move forward at the same time we look back, no?

Since he has no orchestra, I think it would work best as a Joanna song

I would tell him to include It's Time as part of his 'time' theme songs.

I think one of the themes for the songbook should be film songs. Elvis could then choose, amongst others, songs such as

Sparkling Day
I'll Never Fall in Love Again
She

etc etc

If I remember I'm going to ask him in November in Amsterdam to put this on the songbook for the extensive UK 2012 tour although he might think I've been smoking something

This is impossible. Seriously. I just can't pick up just one! I would probably ask him to chose one specially for me... I don't know. Really.

But... "Veronica" carries a special meaning for me. Maybe he could play an acoustic version of it, like that one on A Case for a Song DVD. "She" would be fine too. Or "Party Girl", or "Chemistry Class", or "Big Tears" (OMG I love this song!), or "Shabby Doll", or "Riot Act", or, or, or ...
“Between tenderness and brute force.”
