It's nearly ready!

Paul had this to say about the newly revised version of Reasons To Be Cheerful,

It is enhanced by around 50 new images, from his student days (including watercolours of Brain jones and George Harrison for a Mods & Rockers project) to his final years (including a sketch for Elvis Costello’s “Pills & Soap” – released without a sleeve in the guise of The Impostor).

is explained by this -

(extract)

Elvis, the Attractions and producer Nick Lowe reconvened at Eden Studios to record Elvis' fifth studio album "Trust" (earlier working titles were "Cats and Dogs" and "More Songs About Fucking and Fighting").

I thought you might have put me down as being Howling Mad. But for different reasons...

Have any meeting arrangements been going on behind the scenes? I'm not sure what time I can get there as I have a 3 year old's birthday party to attend. Dressed as Mr T

I should be available early/mid afternoon.

Just got this from exhibit. organiser Paul -

Look forward to seeing you guys on the 16th around noon.

No promises but I will endeavour to dig out a few choice EC-related items from the archive which didn't make the show which may be of interest.

Of course you can! It'd be great to meet you.

Send me a PM with your email address and I'll include you within the arrangements as so far they are a bit loose!

As Saturday gets nearer it's time to narrow down when it will be convenient for all to meet-up. The 12 noon time seems to be problematic for some. Maybe two o'clock would be better. The two hours left before the exhibition close should be sufficient. Paul Gorman needs to be told a specific time so that we can avail of his kind offer of a tour and so that we can see the extra unexhibited Costello items.

Here's a handy location map-

Sounds good to me.

I've certainly got more chance of making it for 2pm.

Limeyfan - have I scared you off? I have that effect (although it's usually on women!)

Excellent question. And one to which I do not have the answer!

Whereabouts will you be? I'm not sure what there is around there so we might come back into central London. But it's not for me to decide!

Since, sadly, I'll have to be getting a train from Liverpool St. staion back to Stansted at about 6 maybe a pub over that direction would be suitable. Just a thought.

Two O'Clock would be better for me. Twelve would be a problem. Liverpool Street is on the Central and Circle Lines so a lot of central London pubs would be convenient. Looking forward to it.

Gang

Sorry I won't be there to join in the fun, but when I saw the location of the gallery as being near Vauxhall Bridge Road, it reminded me of a really nice pub in the area. I used to go here when I was working briefly in London a couple of years ago. It's the Jugged Hare at no 172 on the way to Victoria :

Worth a visit afterwards?

Have fun

Sorry you won't be there Colin TB - saving your cash for some Liverpool shares so you can cast votes about their future eh ?!!
Hope we can meet up soon - perhaps we should have a northern EC fans meet up for yourself, ColinB, Mike H and Andrew M.

Got this earlier this evening -

Hi John

Can you confirm you guys still coming on saturday?

I have you booked in for 12noon - there are others coming throughout the afternoon who I also have to attend to (since we are now within a week of closing) but have allotted an hour for you and your friends.

Trust this is good for you and see you on Saturday.

P

Paul Gorman

I replied , including this -

'Thanks for making time for us on Saturday. The bad news is that most of my friends can't make it until 2.

Since, however, you've allocated us 12 perhaps I may suggest a compromise. I can certainly be there at 12. You give me - and whomever I can get to come along then - the tour. When the rest turn up at 2 they can have a look for themselves, maybe joining in with your othergroup and then we can all meet up afterwards. '

Any thoughts?

I don't know who Paul Gorman is - is this referring to the Barney Bubbles exhib?

I'm happy to go with whichever pub is decided, if it's central. Has anyone made any decisions yet? Liverpool Street is fine by me, too.

The latest from Paul Gorman ( curator of the exhibit) -

'As fate would have it I can't now be at the gallery until 1pm so am
having to reshuffle. Shall I see you then and we'll take our chances
then.

Donald the gallery director is aware you guys are coming and is
extremely helpful as are assistants Martina and Barbara should i not
be around when you arrive.'

Okay, for ease of... everythingness, because John Foyle has to run off, and because I don't know who is going to the exhibition, or when (am a bit confused!) How about...

The Gallery pub (1 Lupus Street - no idea what it's like)
http://www.fancyapint.com/pubs/pub1045.php

...because it's very near Pimlico tube station, v near where the exhibition is? This seems like the simplest option, with no wandering far and wide. John, if you left that pub at 4.30, you'd be in plenty of time to get to Liverpool St (if the tubes don't go tits up)

BUT, John - who after all, suggested this meetup, so takes priority - if you would feel more relaxed going to a pub in Liverpool Street, because of your flight...

The Railway Tavern - right opposite Liverpool St Station (15 Liverpool St)
http://www.fancyapint.com/pubs/pub2050.php

I know this pub - it's not particularly special, but the chat's the thing we're here for!

What do people think? I'm easy either way. God, we're cutting it fine!

Unfortunately limeyfan is not coming. I guess he knows what I'm like even though he hasn't met me. That's reputation for you

All going well I should be in the vicinity of the exhibit by about one tomorrow. We'll take it from there. It'll be great to see whoever turns up. I'm bringing the two MAIT glasses. Anymore would be neat for group photos! Verbal has my 'phone details so we can co-ordinate things , if necessary, through that.

Seeya!
