RIP Herb Ellis

This is for all non-EC or peripheral-EC topics. We all know how much we love talking about 'The Man' but sometimes we have other interests.

RIP Herb Ellis

Post by Jack of All Parades »

Greatly saddened by the news of his passing this past Sunday at the age of 88 years. One of the strongest jazz guitarists of the past 60 years. I always liked the blues tinge in his playing as it combined with a strong harmonic sense. Great fan of his work in the Fifties with the Oscar Peterson Trio and then latter on with Ella Fitzgerald. The man could flat out play. A memorable session for me is his playing on my father in law's album from the mid 80's, "Standards of Excellence", where the two of them beautifully showcased each other and some great 'standards' as well. The old guard just keeps slipping away.
