Carpetbaggers/Go Away single

Post by John »

Just seen this advertised as a charity 7" white vinyl single.

http://www.normanrecords.com/records/102376

Rare opportunity to pick up a genuinely collectible piece of white vinyl – the A side is Jenny Lewis’ vivacious toe tapping, single ‘Carpetbaggers’ featuring a stunning contribution from Elvis Costello’s legendary vocal tones, and the B side ‘Go Away’ a Costello track with Jenny on bvox.
This is a charity single with the record label donating a proportion of profits to the Jazz Foundation, set up to offer post New Orleans flooding support.
Carpetbaggers is B listed on Radio2, looking to progress up to the A. Also a Dermot session booked plus Radcliffe & Maconie session plus John Kennedy XFM session.

It was a great and exciting time.
(The first time I heard the B side on KSAN, the DJ said that it was "Nick Lowe doing his best EC impersonation".)

It seems to be, finally, in stock , as this comment on the site tells -

http://www.normanrecords.com/records/102376

This record left our Phil feeling happy.

For some reason we've sold tons of this Jenny Lewis 7" interestingly titled Carpetbaggers. She sounds exactly like Shania Twain for some reason in this twangy country rock short length. Though when Elvis Costello comes in he sounds like he's being strangled.... I don't think it's his best singing but I strangely quite like it when he kicks in just cos it sounds so wrong. It brings a smile to myself every time. White vinyl only and we've not got too many so get one and put a smile on your face.
I haven't received my copy yet.

Dave in Road Records in Dublin knew nothing about it , except that Rough Trade had send him a promo cd of the two tracks.

The 7" vinyl arrived today.

Clearly someone in the Rough Trade setup or Jenny ' n Elvis have decided to use this release to mark the 30th anniversary of the Nick Lowe single American Squirm. It , of course, featured Elvis doing PLU on the b-side , under this alias -

Look how Go Away is credited on this -

- along with these details on a insert -

This is the back of the sleeve -

Does the front have any hidden E.C. content ( like the Lowe sleeve)?

What's that to Jenny's left?

Or maybe not!

What was I saying , about a black vinyl single turning up in the post Saturday , I've definitely lost the plot ! I actually played this single on arrival , then read all the above and thought I'm missing out on a white vinyl single I better get onto this , so another copy arrived today the same white vinyl as the first , how did I miss that , so like the intriguing STIFF releases of the past just were are those rare black vinyl copies ! I did manage to secure the one track promo cd thanks for that link John.

This is either a brand new 7" vinyl record or the previously available Rough Trade single.
