Your Ten Favourite.....Talking Heads songs

This is for all non-EC or peripheral-EC topics. We all know how much we love talking about 'The Man' but sometimes we have other interests.

Heaven
The Great Curve
Pulled Up
Crosseyed And Painless
No Compassion
Air
Artists Only
This Must Be The Place (Naive Melody)
(Nothing But) Flowers

Hmmm, nothing from True Stories or Little Creatures, both which have their moments. Naked is a pretty underrated album IMO.

How sad is this: on Friday, at work, we were discussing the closing of CBGBs, and how it was the NYC home of punk etc. and I mentioned that Talking Heads, among others, played there. One of our paralegals (24, smart, and into music) asked me who that was. To her "talking heads" just meant "boring folks who talk a lot on tv". I asked if David Byrne rang a bell, and she that yes, but only because she was trying to download some song recently on ITunes, and it kept getting confused with "this David Byrne guy". Here excuse: "Look, that was like 30 years ago".

This Must Be The Place
Once In A Lifetime
Blind
The Great Curve
Pulled Up
Crosseyed And Painless
This Must Be The Place (Naive Melody)
(Nothing But) Flowers
Take Me To The River
Road To Nowhere

Very different to my son, 14, who got into the Ramones in a way his pappy never really did a couple of years ago and thus became aware of the whole CBGB scene. I'm always amazed by how he and his peers seem to move seamlessly between being interested in current bands and old timers. He draws no distinctions, which is really refreshing.

Uh Oh Love Comes To Town
The Book I Read
Warning Sign
Found a Job
The Big Country
Cities
Heaven
Air
Life During Wartime
Listening Wind

Virtually impossible, so much to leave out. At least i managed a couple of original choices! The one song of theirs I could never stand was The Overload, funnily enough. Sounded like they'd played Unknown Pleasures and decided to do one of their own, and forgot to include a song. you obviously don't agree, Chrille!

I was in New York City a few weeks ago and seeing CBGBs gone was kind of odd. Was a museum piece for sure, but deserved to be after launching the careers of Talking Heads, Patti Smith, Ramones etc

Uh Oh Love Came To Town
Pulled Up
The Girls Want To Be With The Girls
The Good Thing
Drugs
Life During Wartime
Seen And Not Seen
Listening Wind
This Must Be The Place (Niave Melody)
And She Was

I watched the True Stories DVD again recently. Quite amazing that it was ever made. Shows the pull that David Byrne once had. Still quite amusing and a nice compliment to the albums. Along with Stop making Sense. I still remember the ushers trying to stop the audience dancing during a screening of Stop Making Sense. They soon relented & realized that it was impossible to sit still during those songs!

It is almost absurd that The Talking Heads have not talked about in hushed tones in darkened corridors. No dead members? Their innovations have been too easily absorbed? Their career kind of wilted rather than finishing at their peak?
Whatever the case, they are ripe for rediscovery!

Nice 10. And She Was is a cracker. True about their legacy, and you can trace their influence in a lot of current bands. Doing a 10 makes you realise how incredibly high quality most of their output was.

I have the vinyl and this baby:

A frriend commented that I would need to build a new shelf to house it. Three CDs and the 'Storytelling Giant' video comp. Very nice.

Check out the name of the blog that was from:

Would like to see True Stories again. Saw it 3-4 times when it was out, I liked it so much. The bit where DB is driving along with the steering wheel moving around madly.

Yeah, I forgot how good True Stories was -- had to look up the track listing on Amazon, because I haven't listened to it over 20 years -- I wore the tape out in high school! I might just have to go buy it on CD and reaquaint myself with it.

Heads '77 is one of those albums that takes you right back to that certain time/place in your life when you listened to it repeatedly.
