Awful odour of rotten fish on the airplane. Expecting many disasters. But the music felt as if we'd been on the road one month all ready. Strange.

Same festival I played with Vanessa Paradis. Afternoon at Steve's Music trying out keyboards. (Thanks guys).

The song 'North' made it's debut appearance.
Friday, July 4, 2003 Off
Ducks waddling around the Breakfast room. City congestion, slow to move anywhere. In the evening, Lee Konitz and the Spring Quartet, playing arrangements of 20th Century French Composers, and Konitz compositions, which stood out.

Sunday, July 6, 2003 Chicago IL
Uncomfortable mini jet. Afternoon, short set, in the park. Hot and clammy weather. Hired band equipment. Elvis enjoyed quoting from older songs and the huge crowd warmed. Girls in bikinis. Torrential thunder storm five minutes after we left the stage. The beat of Uncomplicated must be a rain dance. Still the jet lag, asleep at 20.00 hours. Early start tomorrow.

Monday, July 7, 2003 Vienna VA
A rather tiring day, very early morning flight, delays due to bad weather. Sitting on the runway for an hour or so. Then, to make matters worse, the drivers at the Washington end took a wrong turn and the thirty minute drive to the hotel became an hour or so. Just the thing before playing a set at the sweltering, humid, Wolftrap.

Pete and Davey spent a couple of hours in a local studio laying down a backing track for my next Zomba/Silvertone album. The studio was relaxed and effecient. My brief, in a word,"Slipknot"...

DVD burner.
Thursday, July 10, 2003 Off
Afternoon and evening at Nola studios, recording piano for the "Windows" project I plan to release independantly later this year. Bill Moss, the in house engineer, knows how to keep the technical fuss in the background, allowing you to concentrate on the music. The Nola Steinway piano once belonged to Irving Berlin.

Friday, July 11, 2003 New York NY
First thing in the morning, downtown to Marc Ribot's apartment. A guitar overdub on a song I began recording in Paris just before the tour. Marc is off to France to play the Vienne Jazz Festival. A couple of years back I saw Carla Bley's "Escalator Over the Hill" at Vienne. Muriel's family live closeby in Lyon. The rain came out of nowhere and the Central Park crowd got soaked , just before I arrived. Nevertheless E.C. did a fine job of drying everyone out, with a chalerous and energetic set. Davey and I walked back to the hotel amongst the fans, and only one or two noticed us..

Saturday, July 12, 2003 Boston MA
Strange to think that someone I had lunch with yesterday in NYC is having lunch today in Lyon with my 'brother in law'. Seems the French Musicians Strike didn't stop play for Ribot. Our bags are traveling by road while we get alittle more easilly through the airport security checks. The longest part of the shuttle flight to Boston was once again spent taxi-ing on the runway waiting for permission to take off.

The link to the mp3 page is http://www.stevenieve.com/mp3.htmlI'm putting a couple of tracks up from the "Windows" album, I plan to release shortly. Find them on the MP3 page. This is a Cd of music and photographs. The photos are digital snapshots of almost every window I've encountered over the last 3 years. I'm not sure yet how many windows will fit on the CD, but they make excellent desktop pictures. I've also recorded the sound from the window(s) and mixed this into the music. I'm recording on the road, in various studios, on the days off, and hope to have the album ready for the end of September
