What are you listening to right now?

This is for all non-EC or peripheral-EC topics. We all know how much we love talking about 'The Man' but sometimes we have other interests.

A quite beautiful new album by Ted Barnes, who previously worked with Beth Orton.

So far it's OK but it's the difficult second album. There's a certain Franz Ferdinand sound which is good if you like it. Lyrically there seems to be a lot of humour this time.
Well, my daughter likes it. She asked me to play it on the way to and from the A&P yesterday. So it has a lot of appeal for 5-year old girls, if nothing else. :)

FF is not exactly the deepest band in the world, but if you're in the mood they're an awful lot of fun.
Don't forget that the 5-year old daughter of an EC fan is born with superior musical intellect! (SC)

The first album is a great in car singalong CD.

I'm warming to the new CD.

Domino replied to my moaning mail saying that it might be a faulty batch of CDs that is stopping it playing on my iTunes. Will return and get replaced.

Extraordinary Machine by Fiona Apple.

It's her first album since 1999's When The Pawn and although recorded with Jon Brion a few years ago was deemed too uncommercial to release. But after her fans petitioned on http://www.freefiona.com, a reworked version of the album finally received release a few weeks ago and it's terrific.

Fiona's very, very good. I thought When The Pawn.... was underrated and maybe and if I weren't trying to be Mr. Thrifty right now, I'd probably get her new one. Tidal came out around the time of my freshman year in undergrad and it took me awhile to give her an honest listen because I was so annoyed with how every girl I knew who thought she had a real chip on her shoulder had that album and used it like a weapon. It was kind of like the Titanic soundtrack for the angst set.

True. Back when "Criminal" was a hit, Fiona was the soundtrack for all angry bitches. I think it was only after I became a fan of Jon Brion that I started to take her seriously.

I would just like to say for the record that I liked Fiona Apple before she was cool! And after, too.

You have a bottle nearby? Makes it even better. I've fallen in love with this album. Maybe not everyone's cup of tea, but it's right up my alley.

Dylan's Bootleg 5 Live 1975. Never heard this before. Full-on, no holds barred stuff, as I was expecting from comments here. Sounds great. Kinda nice to get away from 60s Dylan for a while!

Mondo Bongo - Joe Strummer & The Mescaleros.

One of my favourite songs from the sorely missed genius that was Joe.

Playing Streetcore and Global a go-go a lot at the moment.

Great cover! Love the incongruous title and image. Must get this. had no idea it existed. Check out these comments:

Chiropody!

It says three songs off YCHYLF. I can only think of Wan Light and Three Cheers Fou Our Side. What am I forgetting, or is it only two?

'Felicity' can't be the OJ song again, can it?

Is this what life is all about?

"Felicity" is a new version of the OJ song. A very good album that sort of slipped between the cracks. No wonder, it's only available on a German label (the same label, by the way, that issued Shack's hard-to-find Waterpistol).

The chiropody thing is pretty funny. Reminds me a little bit of the great New Jersey indie band The Wrens, three of whom work for the drug company Pfizer, if I'm not mistaken.

Enchanting little song. I also like "Shy Boy". Cute lyrics.
