I don't think he's a big fan of the new stats we added last season, so I doubt there will be an objection. If there is, we can reach a compromise before the draft begins.

let the redneck have his way, we should all go out of our way to tailor the league so that he can win it this year. I do agree that people who join should be committed for the season (to an asylum?). I hated the errors thing too (i thunk me 'noily fought for last place in this cat). Remind me what a DL slot is? I can't remember. Not in favour of another ptching slot but think that the total number of pitching innings allowed should be reduced.

Sorry if I screwed things up a bit last year-- I'm staying in the stands this season! I do wish it worked the way the footie one does; as it is it's just too many players you'd have to know/watch.

Good luck! :)

I'm in.

I need time to think about the stats a little bit. I agree on eliminating losses. Not so sure about hits and walks in favor of OBP though. And recently I've been thinking about the ancient stat of total bases. I'm not bothered by an extra DL list. I'd like a defensive catagory, but agree that errors are pretty lame for this league. Those home runs allowed killed me last year (thank you Josh Beckett) - but I like the stat and think it should stay.

hot dam, bwap showed up. goody has to be around the corner.

total bases could very well be good. the extra DL slot is way more real world. how can give equal value to home runs allowed though. i hate losses, but that is perhaps more defensible than home runs allowed. i'm flexible though, regardless of what moody says, and would be happy with whatever sam decides. i mostly ask that it not be too many. and don't sign up if you ain't gonna play.

I like home runs allowed for the masochistic reasons. It absolutely kills me watching my guys give up dingers on the highlights.

If we were to include total bases, it would be in place of what? I don't want to add any more categories at this point. If you wanted to get really nerdy and anal about it, you could argue that we should cut batting average in favor of OPS, a much truer measure of a hitter's worth.

But I do want to be anal and nerdy. In my case, it's kind of what I'm known for.

I thought the amount of stats last year was managable. I wouldn't go overboard eliminating things. Home Runs Allowed was one of the few pitching stats we had that were defense independent (wins, losses, ERA, WHIP and saves all depend somewhat on the defense) - strikeouts is the remaining that we would have that is defense independent for pitching. A minor point maybe- but I'd argue it puts more emphasis on the pitcher himself rather than the team he plays for.

Again - no problem giving up losses and errors.

I'd just add total bases to the offensive stats.

A two for one Sam - one less category.

We still have plenty of time for debate?

I'll play!

I'm somewhat ambivalent about all this insisting that people who sign up actually play. If I'm not mistaken, I believe that these ones are the only teams I finished ahead of the last 2 seasons. No, now that I think of it, I think that one non-player finished ahead of me at least once. That is so sad.

I kid. It's best if everyone plays.

As far as scoring categories, I don't have any very strong preferences, but would lean toward less anality (new word) and nerdiness. Don't we have enough of that in our lives as it is? (by way of reference, see the top 5 elvis songs statistics - yikes!)

North Hants Knobs

Hants is the standard abbreviation for Hampshire - I'm not sure how they get it, but Hants means Hampshire. I live in North Hampshire (nearly in Surrey!) - For example - if I needed some killer rims - I'd just give North Hants Tyres and Wheels a tinkle -

And a Knob - is the end of the baseball bat. But it might have different conotations in British slang:

knob Noun. 1. The penis.
2. An idiot, an objectionable person.
Verb. To have sex (with). E.g."I knobbed her when we were younger, years before she was famous."
Also spelt 'nob'.

I'm surprised North Hants Knobs wasn't taken already.

Any other players? Teams are a bit thin on the ground this year.

that is clear to me now. is there a South Hants?

7 or 8 who play is better than prodding in an extra 1 or 2 who really won't. we've seen this 2 years in a row. seems as though crash's interest faded with his fortunes last year.
