Oh, OK. I didn't know EH knew that song. Anyway, as much as I like "Foot Of Pride", the Toussaint song came first, so that would suggest that Bob was the ripper, and not the rippee. Thanks King!

I meant that even Dylan didn't stop writing about the subject just because Like A Rolling Stone is the definitive article, so why should it keep anyone else from giving it a go? (And besides, not knowing enough about mr Toussaint, I have no clue as to whether On Your Way Down predates Al Kooper's chance debut on organ or not.)

Allen performed 'On Your Way Down' on 'Life Love And Faith' , released 1972. I got the lyric from a Little Feat site 'cos they covered it on 'Dixie Chicken' (1973).

I was referring to Like A Rolling Stone. But King's choice fits even better, though Foot of Pride came out after Toussaint's L,L & L album (in 1972). And only a few songs come to my mind when I hear "Bob Dylan's classic".

Did I ever tell you guys that my step-uncle sang "All These Things" at my wedding? He totally owned it. The line "the thrill is so divine" was MEANT to be sung up into an old, marble, Catholic Cathedral. It was gorgeous.

He also sang "When I Fall in Love" and "Grow Old With Me".

OH, he's the one who first told me about Elvis Costello! He's a nut just like us! He has the same frames!

I said it sounds a lot like a rip off simply because after a quick glance at the song I thought the themes were alike. I wasn't trying to put down Allen Toussaint, Bob Dylan, Noiseradio, The United States of America or democracy in the 21st century. Jeebus.

Elvis Costello, 51, and the Imposters went to New Orleans and recorded 17 songs with pianist Allen Toussaint, 68, for the CD “The River in Reverse,” to be released in May on Verve Records.

They collaborated on Costello's 1989 album, “Spike.” This time they wrote five songs together.
