What are you listening to right now?

This is for all non-EC or peripheral-EC topics. We all know how much we love talking about 'The Man' but sometimes we have other interests.

Not necessarily in a row! Just 5 times.

How's it sounding? Life-changingly sublime?

Better with each listen. I just get stuck on the occasional Perry Farrell sound...

Can't really see it myself. Glad it's improving. It has a depth that does that.

In particular: Neighborhood #3 (Power Out) is very reminiscent of Perry in Porno for Pyro's. That said, dammit, it is rapidly becoming may favorite song on the record. As of consecutive listen #3. By number 5, I suspect I will have a new opinion.

I like it much more after the investment. Thanks for the recommendation.

Very sad occasion. I have just found this news (from a month ago !!) :

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/entertainment/6318345.stm

Pop group Beautiful South split

Pop group The Beautiful South - known for such melodious hits as Song For Whoever, A Little Time, Perfect 10 and Rotterdam - have split.
In a two-line statement, the Hull-based band, formed by former members of the Housemartins, attributed their break-up to "musical similarities".

"The band would like to thank everyone for their 19 wonderful years in music," the statement said.

One of my favourite bands ....... :( :(

Waits' Orphans

This might just be Waits' best release ever. If I were to put together the 'ten fave waits songs' today there would be several songs from this wonderful set.

Continuing my Weller fest of late...

The Style Council In Concert

I love the piano version of My Ever Changing Moods. I liked Elvis' and Paul's version of this too which I've got somewhere.

I can't go for the separation into three styles of Tom, it's the mix-up in the sequencing I go for. Lots of great stuff here, but too much of it. I'm unlikely to want to listen to any of the CDs the whole way through as it's too much of one vein, so seem to have ended up hardly playing any of it. Give me Rain Dogs!

I think it would have worked better mixing the songs as well, but I don't really mind the way it is now. Bawlers is the one that's hardest for me to listen to in one sitting, but my favourite songs on the set are on that one. Brawlers works best imo and is my favourite disc overall.

And how do you like it, BadA ?
It ain't Boatman's Call, huh ? I listened to it yesterday, and it looks like Nick decided to remind the world of his rawer, dirtier, noisier side.
My fave track so far is I Don't Need You To Set Me Free.

Hugely enjoyable. I've got the heavyweight vinyl edition which sounds superb. Not wrong about the raw, rough-around-the-edges sound. Carried off with aplomb, mind. I loved the recent tour DVD/CD set because of the passion he pours into a performance and I think this record does a pretty decent job of capturing that too. Cracking sleeve too.

Fanfuckingtastic - my new favourite band
