This morning you've got time for a hot, home-cooked breakfast! Delicious and piping hot in only 3 microwave minutes.

Don't think I'll vary much from the above, but I was wondering just the other day about whether the line 'Career opportunities, the ones that never knock' would make sense to people who don't know the TV series. Opportunities don't knock in normal usage, do they?

It's my understanding that "opportunity knocks" is a pretty well-known phrase, even though I've never heard of the TV show.Otis Westinghouse wrote:Don't think I'll vary much from the above, but I was wondering just the other day about whether the line 'Career opportunities, the ones that never knock' would make sense to people who don't know the TV series. I did enjoy this film as a youngster, though, so maybe that's it:

Fairly predictable, but only Blue seems to have had the immortal JJ, and can it really be that no-one's had CC? Wanted Straight To Hell as well.

Not a big fan of the first two records, though I like Tommy Gun and its a nice version of Police and Thieves, but I much prefer the Sandinista/London Calling/Black Market Clash stuff.

Greil Marcus, in one of his books, proclaimed this the greatest rock and roll song of all time. Definitely one of my favorites. It was played at the Forum in the set before the Buzzcocks came on (along with God Save the Queen, Born to Lose and a host of other punk classics) and had the audience singing along - especially the ooooh oooh ooooh part. Don't know if Don Letts was doing the pre set songs, but he was in the house and deejayed for awhile afterwards - we didn't stick around.Otis Westinghouse wrote:... and can it really be that no-one's had CC? ...

2. London Calling
3. I'm So Bored With The U.S.A (Boring Personal Story Alert - one of the funniest things I ever experienced, and one of my proudest moments as a parent was the sight of my then 5-or-6-year-old daughter, standing atop the coffee table with a toy guitar slung over her shoulder, singing along and I mean, like belting it out, "What can I doooooo"!)
4. Tommy Gun
5. Janie Jones
6. (White Man) In Hammersmith Palais
7. Brand New Cadillac
8. Hateful

It's a radiation vibe I'm groovin' on
As I noted I would do earlier in the thread, I threw a few Clash CDs in the changer yesterday and what a nice surprise I got! I used to have a very old CD copy of London Calling which basically sounded like crap. I lost very few CDs in Katrina, but one of them was London Calling. A few months ago, I bought a 'digitally remastered' edition but hadn't listened to it yet. What an incredible improvement! Even songs that I was iffy on before sound incredibly fresh and vibrant. If you own an old copy of London Calling, do yourself a favor and buy a newer one for Christmas. In my case, at least, the difference was startling.
This is probably not going to offer much more variety than above, but fun to compile.
