I rented "The Return of the Spectacular Spinning Songbook" on Prime the other night. Fantastic.
So many great performances in that, but the intermission set, as he refers to it, really stood out. Slow Drag with Josephine followed by Jimmie Standing in the Rain, in which he goes off mic at the end. I rewinded it and watched it 4 times. Outstanding. Do yourself a favor and watch that one again.
Anyway, that song has been bouncing around in my head the last couple days. Then tonight I watched, "It's a Wonderful Life" tonight starring Jimmy Stewart, featuring none other than Jimmy (Stewart), in the early part of the movie, standing in the rain wearing a tweed coat. Maybe Elvis borrowed this scene, or pure coincidence?
And another reference, Martini's Bar, which without George Bailey being born was "Nick's" Bar. The bartender Nick says, "or I'll have to slip you my lip as a convincer". Nick Lowe's Convincer?

Alright. I'm going to bed. This red wine is playing tricks with me.

This is just so good, EC at his very best with the audience eating out of his hands.Arnie wrote: ↑Wed Jan 03, 2024 10:38 pm Here is the Jimmie Standing in the Rain clip from the Spectacular Spinning Songbook video. Gotta watch till the end.

I am inspired now to go and dig out the dvd to re-live the rest of the gig.
Thanks for posting
