So probably some questions that we don't want Graham to ask. For instance, anything along the lines of ....

"Now you mention your father Ross. Weren't you and he once in a TV Commercial for lemonade? I think we have a clip..... [play grainy VT]"

"Ricky Gervais is most famous for the TV Series "The Office". Elvis, didn't you used to be a computer programmer in an office"?

6/4 on skybet Graham mentions EC is also named Declan just like Mr Donnelly :D :D

The musical guests normally only get a very brief interview and it is normally about the record they are promoting.

Has Elvis been on the show before?

This record seems to be the best promoted record in the UK at least in many a year. Ken Bruce session, Loose Ends, Royal Variety and now Graham Norton. More to come I expect.

Well, I won't be applying for a ticket, but I will be watching. I have no idea whether I like Graham Norton personally or not, as all I ever see is a TV persona, of course. But his show is the top ticket for promoting your product in the UK. Kudos for Elvis' team in getting him on the show.

I was wondering if the OBE has helped open doors for him.

A couple of papers have reported that he's performing "Paint The Red Rose Blue" with The Imposters.

TBH I wouldn't have thought so. Suspect that, in terms of getting on shows like this to plug your record, what opens the doors is (a) £££, and (b) who on your team knows who on their team, and can make the right phone-call. Neither Ricky Gervais nor Cate Blanchett have OBEs (as far as I know) and you can bet your life they'll get more screen time than Elvis. :D

My point was more that have more opportunities arisen since he was awarded his OBE which has put him further into the public eye and on the radar for TV shows etc?

Yeah, it's possible that the OBE thing has put him more on the radar. Although (and I'm not in any way 'in the know') my hunch is that getting on shows like this is less about the makers of those shows thinking 'who can we get on next week?' (in which case the OBE could be an influence) and more about the agents of those artists calling the shows and saying 'I can do Elvis Costello for you next week - he's got a new LP coming out?' I think it works that way around, although I could be wrong. I can't see the producers of Saturday Kitchen being clued in enough to Elvis' career to think 'you know who we should get next week?' Strongly suspect his agents called them.

Word on the street is that the performance of PTRRB is Elvis+Steve only, so that would be worth trying to capture as a nice alternative version.

What the hell is going on there? They overdubbed the whole performance with some schmaltzy instrumental?!

The YouTube song is probably blocked for rights reasons.

But you can hear the song at approx 37 mins in on iPlayer:

https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/m ... episode-14

As has been pointed out before, Elvis hasn't got as much control over his low notes these days - it happens to the best of them as voices age! We know he can still rock out to fine effect as the new album proves, so it's fair to say this was probably not the best choice of song to launch the album. Oh well, here's wishing the album a wide audience!

It's been said elsewhere on this board that Elvis's vocal performances are a bit pot luck these days and to my ears that was not a lucky one. I always will him on when I catch him on telly but this was wince making and didn't really get the song across. Made all the more wince making by Graham N and Ricky G rather over praising it to EC afterwards.I hope his voice has better moments on the tour.

I might be in a minority here but I loved the performance and the interview.

My only grumble is that Elvis took over the last story when Cate Blanchett was itching to do it.
