I really love this! Steve's keys sound like a long lost friend.

This is a good rocker - it's like the love child of 'Stella Hurt' and 'My Lovely Jezebel', with shades of 'American Gangster Time'.

What's the difference between the CD book at £39.99 and the CD book with CD at £43.99?JerseyPride78 wrote: Thanks. So it looks like the book is the size of a CD case (and comes with a CD inside) rather than an LP sized book that contains the vinyl inside.
Do you get 2 CDs with the second? If so, why? The descriptions sound the same. Confusing.

Bollocks. Think that's what I've ordered but I don't see why I need two (identical) CDs. Suspect I intended to order just the book (with CD included).JONPD wrote:You get 2 Cds, one in the book and the standalone CDFishfinger king wrote:

Oh well. I suppose £4 isn't going to break the bank.

Got one via the Indianapolis show. They had a small table with the auction.

Re: Magnificent Hurt coming October 27, 2021
I saw Nicole Atkins perform last night and she shared an amusing EC anecdote.
After mentioning how excited she was to appear on A Boy Named If, she talked about how she and EC got to know each other. They were both playing a tribute show at Radio City Music Hall and they got to chatting backstage. During the conversation, Nicole shared with EC that she always thought he should have a song called "Angry Waitress" about, well, an angry waitress. A few days later, Elvis sends Nicole the lyrics to a song he's just written: "Angry Waitress." He also included a note saying that he could never perform it because he would sound too much like Jethro Tull.

Genius! And the reference to it sounding like Jethro Tull made me laugh. I wonder if he demoed it
This deserves posting in another thread so that it doesn’t get lost.

Watch Elvis Costello’s New Animated Video For ‘Magnificent Hurt’
The clip features marionette figures made by Tony Sinnett, who conceived the idea along with Costello himself.
Elvis Costello today shares a new video for his song “Magnificent Hurt,” the lead track from his upcoming album with the Imposters, The Boy Named If, which will be released in January.
The clip features marionette figures made by Tony Sinnett, who conceived the idea along with Costello himself. Animation is by Arlo McFurlow, artwork by Eamon Singer, and the video was edited by Elliot Thomas.
Costello plays guitar and takes the ever-distinctive lead vocal on “Magnificent Hurt,” which also features Vox Continental and electronic keyboards by his ever-present collaborator Steve Nieve. Also on board are frequent and longtime musical companions Pete Thomas on drums and percussion and Davey Faragher on bass and vocals.
The song will be part of The Boy Named If when the album is released by EMI in the UK and Capitol in the US on January 14. The 13-track set, produced by Costello and Sebastian Krys, includes a guest vocal by Nicole Atkins on the track “My Most Brilliant Mistake.”
The album is Costello’s sixth release since October 2020 and will be available on CD, vinyl, cassette, as a download, via streaming and in a numbered, signed, 88-page hardback storybook edition.
“Magnificent Hurt” was described by Spin as “organ-thumping,” while Stereogum called it “a straight-up rocker that sounds a whole lot like something that Costello might’ve made in the late 70s. The song has a pounding backbeat, some perfect organ interjections from longtime bandmate Steve Nieve, and a lead vocal with some real snarl in it.”
cultfollowing.co.uk said the song proved that Costello was “back with a bite.” It went on: “He and the Imposters are gearing up for another setlist of quality entertainment…his vocal powers remain unchallenged and as strong as ever. He adapts with the vocal array now presented to him to deliver a story of bridging the gap between risk and reward.”

interesting that the 'dislike' button doesn't raise any count, but only 'feedback shared with the creator on facebook'?

It is a great, great single. Obviously he always closes the live set with a combination of PIU, PLU and so on. But, to my mind, there's a bunch of rockers that, had they been recorded/released in 1978, would now be the encores that would raise a cheer (Story in Your Voice, Episode of Blonde, Under Lime, Pony Street, How To Be Dumb, Man Out of Time, and so on...). And Magnificent Hurt would be in that category for me.
