Typically, I'll be in Hyde Park watching Roger Waters on that date.

More dates to follow hopefully?

Anyone ever been to a gig there?
I usually go whenever Elvis plays Manchester or Liverpool. But not sure about this one because that venue looks as if it has the potential to be really shit.

I have never been to the venue either, however, there are at least three drawbacks I can see.

i) Elvis is sharing the billing with Paul Heaton and Jacqui Abbott, who have their fans too. If they go on first, those fans are potentially going to be chatting through Elvis' set.

ii) Elvis' set may be shorter than you might like to allow time for Mr Heaton and Ms Abbott.

iii) The venue is open air (except for a roof over the stage) although there is cover at the back of the audience area, and this is Manchester, even in July there is a chance of rain. You won't be able to take an umbrella into the venue.

I won't be booking tickets for this one.

The positive side to this is that there should be other UK gigs added.

Agreed, Verbal - I think this means an Imposters album and tour. Yessss!!! Why assemble these scattered players for one gig only? I wish the Burt and the 'Face In The Crowd' musicals every success, but if they're not happening, perhaps some of the songs will make an appearance on a new Elvis studio album. Or maybe there'll be some unrelated out-of-the-blue songs we've never heard of that've been stockpiled and are now ready to be unleashed. Mid-2018 for an album release, I'm hoping!!

I'm gutted!

EC rarely plays both Liverpool and The City of Perpetual Rain these days on the same tour.

I was hoping that he would be part of Liverpool's 10-year-anniversary-since-we-were-Capital-of-Culture celebration programme. In 2008 he played with the Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra.

Looks like my hopes are to be dashed!

I've seen a few things at the Castlefield Bowl and I think it's not a bad outdoor venue and doesn't feel like it has an 8,000 capacity. Sound has been good, easy to see the stage, plenty of good food and drink places nearby.

No comfy seats though!

I saw a listing that only referred to Heaton & Abbott, implying they are definitely the headliners. I've always found Heaton to be very irritating, though Abbott has a nice voice. I think Elvis is due a Forestry Commission tour so he can play Thetford in easy driving distance from Cambridge. Saw Elbow there in June and it was lovely. He played there a few years ago, but not sure if that was a full forest tour.

About time he and the bloody Imposters got their asses over here. Sod Las Vegas!

Hi Otis...i gotta ask: WHO THINKS IT IS ABOUT TIME THAT ELVIS PUTS HIS FOOT DOWN AND STOPS OPENING FOR LESSER ACTS? I mean Dylan, Rolling Stones, The Who...okay. but, Steely Dan, House Martins...WTF???

I'm guessing you missed the subtle Abbott and Costello reference...

Probably because Elvis' Mum's birthday is 11th July and he usually likes to find an excuse to come over for that. Plus the money will be good for what looks like being a greatest-hits warm-up set for Paul Heaton. Apologies for sounding cynical - I've got my tickets for this one - but I can't convince myself that it's the precursor to a new LP or a full-scale UK tour.

Which is excellent, as I have a train back to Sheffield to catch.

All of Elvis, 40 mins of Paul Heaton. Stroll to Oxford Road. Tucked up in bed by midnight
