Preservation Hall Jazz Band to join Elvis Costello at Ryman
Preservation Hall Jazz Band will join Elvis Costello for part of his Oct. 17 show at the Ryman Auditorium. After a recent performance with the stellar, New Orleans-based band, Costello said, "We were fortunate to all find ourselves playing on the same afternoon and reprised some of the numbers performed for that first tiny audience. When Preservation Hall came marching out in a middle of my fifth number, I had a feeling we were headed somewhere special. I've been looking for an opportunity to take things further and could think of no better address to do it than the stage of the Ryman Auditorium.”
Said Ben Jaffe, the Preservation Hall Jazz Band's creative director and tuba player, "We are honored and delighted to again share the stage with Elvis Costello at the historic Ryman Auditorium. Elvis is a one-of-a-kind artist that can wear many hats, and he does.”
The band Larkin Poe is still scheduled to open the show. Tickets ($49.50-69.50) for the concert are currently on sale at ryman.com.

Elvis Costello has announced that the Preservation Hall Jazz Band will join him onstage for a portion of his set at the historic Ryman Auditorium in Nashville at his October 17th "Detour" solo show.
Following his appearance with The Imposters at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival this year, Elvis Costello was the special surprise guest of the Preservation Hall Jazz Band at their "Midnight Preserves" show, playing to more than the 100 capacity at Preservation Hall itself.
Speaking of a recent appearance at Newport Folk Festival, Costello said, "We were fortunate to all find ourselves playing on the same afternoon and reprised some of the numbers performed for that first tiny audience. When Preservation Hall came marching out in a middle of my fifth number, I had a feeling we were headed somewhere special. I've been looking for an opportunity to take things further and could think of no better address to do it than the stage of the Ryman Auditorium".
Ben Jaffe, of Preservation Hall Jazz Band says: "We are honored and delighted to again share the stage with Elvis Costello at the historic Ryman Auditorium. Elvis is a one-of-a-kind artist that can wear many hats, and he does!"
Rebecca and Megan Lovell of Larkin Poe, will once again open the show, joining Costello in the finale, as they have done for many of the recent
"Detour" shows, providing unique trio arrangements of some of Costello's best known tunes along with a preview of songs from the forthcoming stage musical, "A Face In The Crowd" .
Elvis Costello, Rebecca and Megan Lovell and the Preservation Hall Jazz Band will join forces at the end of this unique, penultimate night of the current, "Detour" run.

Cool. I'd recommend the flying saucer off Broadway, it's close to the Ryman but not too close to the Lower Broadway craziness. Maybe an hour before the show?
