No sign of Elvis in the initial soundtrack release , but there will be a second collection in April of tracks released digitally as the episodes appear.

How 'Vinyl' mixes its '70s music
(...)
“Walk into any record-company offices and there’s always music playing,” Winter says. “Everything (Richie) does is informed by music. To be able to continue to produce a show like that and still stay on a responsible budget (is) one of our biggest challenges every week.”
The mix (some included on full-length CDs or digital EPs, released each Friday by Atlantic Records) includes background music; covers, lip-synced by actors playing real rock stars but voiced by other singers; and original songs composed for fictional artists such as R&B star Hannibal (Daniel J. Watts), whose repertoire is sung by The Gap Band’s Charlie Wilson. Look carefully and you’ll even see Elvis Costello in the background of one episode, singing Back Stabbers in a bar mitzvah scene.

Re: Elvis in duet on soundtrack to 'Vinyl' TV series, Feb. 2016?
EC's version of the Jim Ford song "Point Of No Return" has just appeared on iTunes and Amazon as part of the latest Vinyl soundtrack EP. That probably means it will be heard in this Sunday's episode.

EC has played this song live a few times, but it is a completely different song from the other "Point Of No Return" (written by Goffin & King) which was originally a "Baby Plays Around" b-side!

Did anyone catch where this track was used in Sunday's episode, or was it cut?
I wonder if Elvis did record a version of "Backstabbers" as well, that got cut.

Ah - this is one of the songs Elvis has tacked onto the end of Alison over the years.

It plays in the background as Richie and Julie discuss Bruce Springsteen. It's completely obscured by dialogue, so it's not at all surprising you missed it.Miclewis wrote:Did anyone catch where this track was used in Sunday's episode, or was it cut?

Elvis's version of Backstabbers is on a 'Vinyl' album on April 15th.

Poster also had equal praise for rock legend Elvis Costello, whose new version of “Back Stabbers” appears on “The Essentials” as well: “He is such a student of rock that he was really able to spin it so that it felt both fresh as well as in the era.”

Weird, it's playing fine for me!
It's also on Spotify and $1.29 on iTunes-- it's a more straightforward rendering of the O'Jays song than the version we're familiar with from it's mash-up with "King Horse" on the 1983 Punch The Clock tour, but it's still great fun hearing Costello dig in to the vocal (my favorite moment being the way he bites into the word "VISITS" around 1:37 with classic Costello venom)
It was a fun surprise to suddenly get 2 new EC records this week!

An interview with Vinyl music supervisor Randall Poster includes:
Do you have any personal favorite moments from the season, just things that really satisfied you as a music fan?
There’s a song I love that ends episode 9. Chris Cornell sang “Stay With Me, Baby,” a song that was sung by Terry Reid, who they had asked to be in Led Zeppelin but he declined. And Cornell is just such a magnificent singer and he really responded to it, and I think he does a monstrous version of it. That was a real joy.
Elvis Costello also worked with us, and he’s one of my all-time favorite artists. He did a song in the last episode called “Point of No Return” that’s on the soundtrack and he did a version of “Backstabbers” for our finale soundtrack. It’s really incredible.
Re: Elvis on soundtrack to 'Vinyl' TV series, April 2016
In my luddite way I'm waiting to see if Elvis's tracks will actually be released on some kind of physical format , be it cd or , er, vinyl. Has anyone been able to work if that is actually going to happen?

Elvis's cover of Back Stabbers is finally on a actual, physical release. Not on the vinyl but at least the booklet with the CD has details of the backing musicians.

Listening to Look Now I found myself flashing back to the similar 'big sound' of this Jim Ford cover Elvis did for this tv series
Point Of No Return

Elvis also covered Back Stabbers for the same project https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=de2c1921p3c
