Re: very special NICK LOWE announcement coming Thursday
Our very own John Foyle shared on FB:
Here's a press release a friend got - When Nick Lowe was approached by his US record label about making a Christmas album, his reaction wasn't exactly one of comfort and joy. “It was more disquiet and alarm - Do they really think I would wish to sully my good name on this tawdry and vulgar commercialism?” he says. “But that feeling lasted about thirty seconds before I came to and thought, 'Vulgar, tawdry commercialism? Yes, please, when do we start?' Seriously, I thought, 'Wait a minute, this could be really good fun.'”
The result is Quality Street: A Seasonal Selection For All The Family, a twinkling blend of traditional hymns, forgotten gems and Lowe originals. From the opening rockabilly-charged Children Go Where I Send Thee and the comfy hush of Christmas Can't Be Far Away, the record includes the beatnik bop of Hooves on the Roof (written especially for the project by Ron Sexsmith), Roger Miller's wistful classic Old Toy Train, before wrapping up with a ska-flavoured take on I Wish It Could Be Christmas Every Day.

This show also features the exceptionally talented Jason Isbell and the original Cricketts, as well. I will be there at Damrosch Park with the family- should be a fun early evening.bronxapostle wrote:alright then...sounds good! so bummed he is playing NYC Lincoln Center for FREE august 10th as ive got Todd Rundgren tickets for that night. please get there and enjoy the freebie if you can. peace, ba

made my pre-order purchase on the yeproc site. Got the CD, vinyl, and Nick Lowe snow-globe coming. Was tempted by the Nick Lowe wrapping paper and greeting cards, but couldn't do it. Tawdry commercialism indeed!
Really looking forward to this new Christmas album. ALL of the tracks sounded great on the youtube preview.

There's a live recording of Nick Lowe performing a song that starts with the lyrics "It's Christmas again... and I'm lonely" and also features the line "I'm gonna hang my tears on the tree."
It's an exquisite performance, a perfect NL-type song.
I hope if it's not on the album it may at least have been recorded for a bonus track or something...
Very excited about this album!
