Think this is worthy of sharing from today's Slate- if you dread, like me, the oncoming shortest day of the year-perhaps this poem will provide some solace and strength- it always has for me and apparantly for the poet, Robert Pinsky. The sense of re-affirmation at the end is quite life affirming:

With that a hearty early birthday greeting is sent your way and these words by Mr. Donne from the poem as well:
