don't bother me

Post by jardine »

I'd not seen or heard this before

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ta_nBbdIoR0

but it re-confirms for me that something new, interesting and consistent started in and around National Ransom w. e.c.s guitar playing technique and ability, modal/melody guitar tunings, and so on.

Yup, it's like he rediscovered fingerpicking and open tunings. That guitar itself also sounds great, very rich sound.

One of my top-5 favorite Beatles songs. EC does a fine interpretation and he needs to continue to explore his finger-picking technique.

As much as I respect the man I've never thought him to be an amazing lead guitarist but this is pretty good. I especially dig his new fingerpicked EDIWTB

I'd rather have ALMOST BLUE V2 to be honest.

While I'm impressed (this is much better than what we usually get from the man), you still see him struggling: hesitant fingering and awkward jumps. Worst of all, he's visibly paying all his attention to the strings, letting his vocals wonder off. He's straying into musical territory that don't show off his talents very much ...

I was gonna post that Symbol but I forgot, his voice is way off when he does this stuff.

I saw a video of him doing Slow Drag With Josephine on Jools Holland -- that was muh better. Some excellent singing and very confident and expressive guitar picking (accompanied by just a stand-up bass). Well-impressed with that.
He must have been really nervous doing that on National TV. :)

I reckon if there's a certain tentative feel to this performance it's because it's not his own song, and it was his first ever live performance of it.
