Writer John Fowles, author of The Magus and The French Lieutenant's Woman, has died at the age of 79. His 1969 book, The French Lieutenant's Woman, made John Fowles a best-selling author on both sides of the Atlantic.

I've only read The Collector, but have seen three good films based on his novels. It might not be an appropriate place to say this, but Greta Scacchi was gorgeous in the tv adaptation of The Ebony Tower.

A sad loss and a great writer.
I read "A Maggot' a few years back and thought it was a great read. I need to find time for The Magus and The Collector.

I never heard of that book. As my first and middle name are Daniel Martin, that's a book for the shelf. Should sit nicely next to the CD with my brothers names. their names are Raymond & Peter, so this CD is always fun:Jackson Monk wrote:I've just recalled that I read 'Daniel Martin' as well, which was pretty damn fine.
