I own two pure breeds: a beautiful West Highland White Terrier named Oscar. We later acquired a Scottish Terrier, and I fought valiantly to name him Elvis or Dec. Since I had won the gentle debate to name our daughter Allison (compromised with two "L's" and, with a more significant homage to my father, Alfred, or "Al"), I was fairly sure that my Scottie would ne named something other than Elvis.
Indeed, our jet-black Scottie is named "Jake", after Jake Gettis in Chinatown (he has the same eyes as Jack). For Halloween we put a butterfly bandage across his snout, but the masquerade was too much of a stretch for most, save for my Saudi neighbors, who 'got it' right away.
Which begs the question...thanks again to the brilliant and always informative posts of johnfoyle: Since dogs supposedly often have features similar to their owners, what kind of dog would Elvis be seen walking through Central Park?
For me, I would be surprised by anything other than a Jack Russell Terrier. (Did I mention or infer that I like terriers?).

My husband's family has always had Scotties.......funny little dogs. Hearty as hell.
I always wanted a white West Highland terrier! They are the most adorable dogs. A nice size too. Right now we have two English Pointer puppies (gun dogs). Although we don't hunt or even own a gun. We ended up with two females so I couldn't fanagle my way into naming either one of them Elvis......although, Alison would have been cute. I was out numbered 5 to 1.
Mr. A......my neighbors just got a new puppy. A Jack Russel/poodle mix. I've never heard of such a combination. She's black and looks more like a terrier than a poodle. She's adorable.

I could be wrong, but while it seems to me EC has written/sung at least a few lyrical reference to cats (most obviously "Pads, Paws and Claws" and his cover of "Leave My Kitten Alone", which he quoted in another song, which I can't quite rememmber), I can't think of any dog references.
Can anyone?

Wonder where your head must be at!!miss buenos aires wrote:If I ever got two kittens at the same time, I'd name them Revenge and Guilt. Somehow that doesn't quite sound right for dogs, though.

I do have a dog named Elvis - he looks very much like the dog at the top of this thread. He's six years old and took a dump on the stairs last week when Wife With A Problem startled him with a basket of laundry - the poor bastard is tightly wound - (the pack and half a day habit and the two pots of coffee don't help him any).
Everyone just needs to fuckin’ relax. Smoke more weed, the world is ending.
I once knew a really cool siamese named Elvis...but he was named after, you know, that other Elvis. (He arrived on the guy's doorsstep not long after the death of the King, so it followed that he was E's reincarnation....)
The guy who owned him would put him in a sack, and swing it around a bunch of times. It looked cruel, but Elvis the cat seemed to enjoy, as he would come back and sit on the sack until his owner repeated the process.

Sorry Verbal, if you read my response to your response to mine; had misread it.

Come to think of, it was actually a quasi-Victorian house.miss buenos aires wrote:So I guess the guy had a pretty big apartment...you know, big enough to swing a cat in!
