Birthday Wishes to The Man
Although I know he will not be reading this, I wish for Elvis a wonderful day. His music has come to mean so much to me, and has drawn me closer to the man I love. I hope he has a fabulous day.
50 looks good on him.
50 looks good on him.
Fifty thanks to The Man for giving me all the years of solace and catharsis, to say nothing of all you lovely folks.
Did I mention Al Roker is also 50 today? Yes I believe I did. How did I know this? My Mom sent me a clipping from AARP's magazine which features a birthday page noting cool folks 50 and over. The August picture-boy is our Elv.

Happy Birthday to THE MAN!
It seems like just yesterday that I first saw a review of an EC LP in a Scholastic newsletter like Weekly Reader. That was either in the 6th or 7th grade back in the late 70s. He has been a constant in my musical life ever since.
I can't imagine EC using the AARP discount myself though.

When I stocked the front display rack with My Aim is True the day it was released (the label on the vinyl was imprinted with "Elvis is King Elvis is King Elvis is King" completely around the outer edge).1978, Junior in College. MAIT was positioned just below "Never Mind the Bullocks...Heres the Sex Pistols".
I remember thinking that this is another novelty act that I'll need to review for scads of mindless people clamoring for Frampton Comes Alive, Fleetwood Mac Rumours, and the new Dave Mason album. After a few weeks, I predicted, he will move to the back rack and it was less than a year until his yellow shrink wrap covers would be peeking out of the cut-out bin. and then he will disappear. So a few nights after we stocked it, I was bored with the same old Silk Degrees, Blow by Blow, Countdown to Ecstasy rotation that I opened it and threw it on the direct drive turntable, much to the chagrin of Rory Felato (real name!), my coworker, and the world changed for us that night.
Happy Birthday to an artist that has had a significant impact on my life. I like Miles Davis BECAUSE I was an Elvis Costello fan. That probably makes no sense, but to me, it makes all the sense in the world.
I'm pretty sure you made it Declan. Pretty sure. A legacy at 50. You're just a kid. Trust me...
you're just a kid, and the best years are ahead.
Now, will we celebrating the birthday of a little Kralstello to carry on the McManus legacy?

As ABBA once sang (with slight adjustments) :
"Thank you for the music, the songs you're singing
Thanks for all the joy they're bringing
Who can live without it, I ask in all honesty
What would life be
Without your song what are we
So I say thank you for the music
For giving it to me"

If you don't know what is wrong with me
Then you don't know what you've missed
Then you don't know what you've missed
Happy Birthday, EC -- Isn't it great to realize that you are NOW much better known than Elton Motello?

I was on holiday in France on the day, knowing I'd be missing some excitement back on the board on this venerable day. Nice thing was it was also my wife's birthday (not to mention Sean Connery and Martin Amis), 11 years younger than Elv. I'd brought Mighty Like A Rose which was out in our days of early romance, and was 'our' Elvis LP. It was great driving around French roads, just as we had done on Spanish ones 14 years before, listening to it. All Grown Up indeed. I toasted Elvis, and look forward to the next 27 years of musical magic from him.
There's more to life than books, you know, but not much more
