who would you like to see Elvis tour with?

Post by piratethrift »

It seems that Elvis has a weak opening act most of the time. Past shows I've seen American Hi Fi and the lead singer of the Black Crows open for him. I would love to see him play with someone worth seeing. Who would you like to see him play with?

I think a Bright Eyes and Elvis Costello show would be a great show.

Mundy. A great guy( full disclosure: a customer of mine as well) , I've never seen him live, so this would be a handy way of seeing him.

Act I have seen opening for Costello:

Nick Lowe
Ron Sexsmith
Difford & Tilbrook
Difford on his own

All good.

PS Cannot stand Mundy, there was a time around 1996 when he seemed to be supporting at every tiny gig in Dublin, and I just wanted him to stop stop stop. "The moon's a piece of lemon in a gin & tonic sky", that particularly annoyed me. End of rant.

ditto that. they could play the ryman, john prine would be in the audience right beside me, I'd have 4th row center seats. nic cester would be my cabana boy. the planets would align in some new constellation and there would be peace in our time.

I've never seen anyone open for him on any of the occasions I've seen him, except for Ron, who was a surprise guest and only played a few songs. He was great as always though, and and I wouldn't mind him opening another tour. Here are some other suggestions:

The Weakerthans
Tlahoun Gèssèssè (or anyone else from the 'ethiopiques' series still performing)
Richard Thompson
King Creosote
Daniel Johnston
Hamell On Trial
The Handsome Family
Nellie McKay
The Magnetic Fields
Johnny Dowd
Robert Wyatt
Squeeze
Sarah Jane Morris/Marc Ribot
The Radiators
Greg Brown
Frank Black
Oysterband
bonnie 'prince' billy
Manowar
Willie Nile
Joe Henry
Rufus Wainwright
Southside Johnny & The Asbury Jukes
The Walkabouts
Willard Grant Conspiracy

The dream line up of non-broken-up artists...

Head Automatica
Saves The Day
Glenn Tilbrook
Elvis Costello & The Imposters

I'd throw The Blood Brothers in there too... but then it'd be a little too impossible.

The Kinks. Is that an option? How about Radiohead?

How about Jackshit? That would be interesting.

When he is down in Oz - Paul Kelly. I think they may be doing a few of the upcoming winery gigs together, fab.

No, the winery gigs are with Joe Camileri, Stephen Cummings, Mick Thomas, and Diesel (Camileri and Cummings being two of the acts I have long wanted to see sharing a billing with EC).

Paul Kelly is doing a series of winery gigs in his own right, although I have to agree that it would be great to see "the man Bruuuuce can only dream of being", on the same bill as EC & the Imposters.

Rufus!

Post by jillbeast »

Definitely Rufus, although that would be a huge show. Many fans does Rufus have! He fills places like the Fillmore in San Francisco. Hrmm. Rufus would be great, but alas, I'd need at least two hours with each act!
