Oh-just about two feet of the white powder- finally dug out and getting back to normal although some concern about residual backup on air flights for my daughter as she prepares to leave for Japan. It was a memorable 'Boxing Day'.

Re: Random Thoughts
Why is it I absolutely cannot stomach the idea of wearing these earring/necklace sets that fill department store jewelry counters? I like them, I just can't wear them.

Re: Random Thoughts
It's probably because you have too much style and class MDM.
There are certain items that look good on other people but do not necessarily suit you.
A case in point for me is hats. There are some that I like. Unfortunately though there is not a hat on the planet that makes me look good (or even half decent).
What is it about a trip to the rubbish dump (waste disposal) that makes you feel so cathartic?

Too much style and class? You can almost hear oily slick choking on his teeth from here, can't you?
I imagine you in a sharp white Panama, VG.
And, will it please STOP being winter for a few days? Pretty please?

The Snow Man
by Wallace Stevens
One must have a mind of winter
To regard the frost and the boughs
Of the pine-trees crusted with snow;
And have been cold a long time
To behold the junipers shagged with ice,
The spruces rough in the distant glitter
Of the January sun; and not to think
Of any misery in the sound of the wind,
In the sound of a few leaves,
Which is the sound of the land
Full of the same wind
That is blowing in the same bare place
For the listener, who listens in the snow,
And, nothing himself, beholds
Nothing that is not there and the nothing that is.
Mood Swung, I'm still trying to learn to see and feel this season as the snow man does and its going on 56 years!!!

I haven't worn a watch in over three months.

I haven't worn a watch in 15 years.
Or more. Whenever I randomly became allergic to nickel. Greatest thing that ever happened to me.
The not-wearing-a-watch, not the nickel allergy.
Cold, damp and blah again. So much for T shirt time.

Re: Random Thoughts
I love watches.
I treated myself to a Cartier for my 40th birthday and the other two decent ones I've got were a wedding present from Mrs VG and one I bought with a small inheritance to remind me of the person who paid for it.
It's my 50th in few years time and might treat myself to something extra special if a couple of good things happen to me.

Have not worn a watch or any jewelry for over 28 years- quite liberating to be pseudo free from time's tyranny. Unfortunately, wherever I turn since then some maddening digital representation of time continues to stare me down.

Re: Random Thoughts
My watch battery packed up and it was being sorted for a few days last week. It was utter hell being watchless, even for three days. I had to keep taking my mobile out and looking at the time, or looking for clocks on meeting room walls. Worst of all was cycling to and from work - how flat out do I need to go to get there. I can understand the appeal of no watch on holiday, or at the weekend, but in the workaday time-bound reality of life, I can think of few more irritating things than not having the time immediately visible. Funny thing was when I put it on again it felt so heavy and odd.

That's very kind of you MDM but you've only seen me from mightily afar. And don't ask to see the portrait in the attic...mood swung wrote:50! you don't look a day over 25.
The problem with having nice watches is that they cost a fortune to service and replace the battery. One of my watches cost £90 to do this last time. It is currently due for a battery replacement but it might be waiting a while.Otis Westinghouse wrote:My watch battery packed up and it was being sorted for a few days last week. When I had it serviced last time the jeweller insisted on me leaving a £10 deposit. The watch is worth £750. What did he think I was going to do - leave it there

Work is kind sometimes.
I've been invited to become involved in a European project which will see me visit Bulgaria, France and possibly Poland.
My passport runs out in March but my employer won't pay for its renewal. Still, you can't have it all

Re: Random Thoughts
Ah, I see. Said the blind woman to her deaf dog, Spot.
I watched the Westminster Kennel Club thing over the last two days and heard one of the announcers refer to how, to certain dog lovers, dog hair is a condiment. And I just found one in the bottom of my blue cheese dressing as I ate the last cucumber.
It's February. What kind of dog sheds in FEBRUARY!?!?
