Elvis Costello sings on stage at City Winery

Posted: 11/10/09

November 9th 2009---Elvis Costello joined the celebration Monday night at City Winery for the release of Paul LaRaia’s exquisite photo book documenting Levon Helm's Midnight Ramble. Joined on stage by an all star cast of Helm’s former band mates and close friends, Costello sang two passionate numbers, including a version of the Grateful Dead's Tennesse Jed, and the Band classic, The Weight.

Hearing Elvis harmonize the refrain with Larry Campbell and Teresa Williams: "Take a load off Fanny, take a load for Free; Take a load off Fanny, and you can put the load right on me." was a musical high point and a fitting theme for what was a personal and fun filled evening celebrating the spirit of Levon’s Midnight Rambles - one to remember.
