Re: The Politics of Politics: The Ride of a Lifetime
Does anyone remember a recent U.S. presidential candidate being called a socialist this much? This is weird.
Loving this board since before When I Was Cruel.

It's just silly. Progressive taxation = socialism? Desperate GOP BS. Expect a dirty trick a day between now and Election Day. Dude is barely carrying his home state, so it's desperation time for McAngry and Caribou Barbie.LessThanZero wrote:Does anyone remember a recent U.S. presidential candidate being called a socialist this much? Anyone vote yet? There is no early voting here in New York, but I'm chomping at the bit to get to the polls on Nov. 4.

Re: The Politics of Politics: The Ride of a Lifetime
Not yet, but I'm really excited to do so. It's a historical election, and the first presidential one I get to vote in. So I'm pretty excited to get to do it. Plus, it'll be over, then. This feels like the longest election ever.

I voted a couple days ago. My 18yr. old son voted his first time. Straight Democrat ticket for him, not so much for me.
Now I'm the invisible man, and you can't see me.

'My special advisor Johnny Halliday' etc.! Hilarious. She sounds so totally naive and thick.

McCain's appearance on Saturday Night Live last night, while good-natured, felt like a concession speech to me.

Re: The Politics of Politics: The Ride of a Lifetime
Ummm....this makes no sense to me Mr. A. Fear-mongering is not your strong suit! How is an Obama presidency going to directly lead to "dramatically increased abortions"? Last time I checked, the court had four, relatively young, arch-conservatives, one swing voter, and four moderate liberals. I don't see any major changes happening there. That just makes no sense at all. Loss of the war on terror? Same thing. Conservatives seem so hysterical about all this.Mr. Average wrote:Will America elect the following policies as 14 new "Darwin Awards" on Nov 4th:

Look, when W was elected, I was terribly disappointed (especially the second time!), but I didn't think that life as we know it would grind to a halt. And it hasn't. Granted, Bush's policies and leadership have lead to a worsening of life for many, many people in this country and the world, but his time, like our next president's will eventually be, is over.
America is great because we don't stay stagnant. I know you'll argue that your way of life is under attack. But it is not. Changes will happen, but the changes that don't work will be changed again......by whoever is in the next administration.

Negotiations? Oh no!!!!

My Quantitative Methods prof cancelled class tomorrow so we wouldn't be deterred by long lines! Whoopee!
Re: The Politics of Politics: The Ride of a Lifetime
I'll be watching the election news tomorrow from my hotel room in Vegas... I'm cautiously optimistic that I will be happy with the outcome.

Re: The Politics of Politics: The Ride of a Lifetime
Just letting you guys know that I anticipated not feeling well enough to stand in a long voting line today, so I made sure to absentee vote prior to today. Done my part, even in the middle of a hectic schedule around here.
Re: The Politics of Politics: The Ride of a Lifetime
I'll vote after school, even though it looks like it will be raining out. Then, downtown to what will hopefully be an Obama victory rally. I will probably be up until all hours- I'm an election night junkie!

Re: The Politics of Politics: The Ride of a Lifetime
I went and voted. No line for my ward. I was surprised, because I expected a line, voting in a city. I have two exams tomorrow but I'll probably be up at all hours anyway.

Re: The Politics of Politics: The Ride of a Lifetime
NO LINE for me today! I have voted. I unfortunately carpooled to the polls with someone who canceled out all of my votes. Fortunately, I live in a historically blue, and poor state.
Michigan will hopefully be a green state. I would love to see us leading the way on green initiatives in our automotive factories and with our beautiful and abundant natural resources.
Today is the day the Lord has made. Let us REJOICE and be glad in it. Here's to Obama being the next FDR!!! Is there room left for him on Mt. Rushmore? Or at least money?

I have done the deed without the hassle of waiting in line for too long. The suspense is killing me. It's gonna be a long night.
