Top 5 British Bands of 60s that arent Beatles/Stones

This is for all non-EC or peripheral-EC topics. We all know how much we love talking about 'The Man' but sometimes we have other interests.

I think most of the groups I was thining of have been named.

How about,

Them (Nothern Island is still British occupied isn't it?)

Mott The Hoople (1st album 1969, so they kind of Qualify)

Curiously no one has thought to mention Genesis or Pink Floyd with Syd Barrett. They wouldn't make my top 5, but thought they had their fans.

noiseradio, you're such a card. Chad and Jeremy! i still have one of their singles that is square and paper that i cut off the back of a cereal box. those things would play a little if you could get them to go around your 45 turntable. (i suppose this phenomenon doesn't ring a bell with most of you.) did you ever see them on that episode of the dick van dyke show?!

thank you BWAP for The Animals; it shouldn't have taken till the 4th post for them to appear.

and the knickerbockers! wow, what a thought. they were quite the rage for a little while, all over the television.
I'm not concerned about the very poor.

Wow, you can be pretentious Noise! ("This isn't up for debate".....why are we here then?)

So, veering off from Professor Noise's picks:

1. The Kinks
2. The Kinks
3. The Kinks
4. Shocking Blue (not British, but still better than most of the British Invasion)
5. The Zombies

As you can see, the Who don't enter my top 5. I know most people will disagree, and I certainly respect that. Its just that as a whole, I think the Kinks did more for music than The Who, the Hollies, or Chad and Jeremy ever did.

Bring it on!

Herman's Hermits?

It's funny, but, except for the vinyl soundtrack to the movie of "Quadrophenia", I've never owned any albums by any of the bands mentioned...though I do enjoy the Kinks a lot and really should by all their records immeidately.

Mixed feelings about a lot of the Who...and even a lot of the Stones. Guess, when it comes to the British Invasion, I'm just a Beatles guy.

It seems like almost every non-Beatles album I own from the sixties is soul/r&b or "adult pop."....I'm weird, I guess.

I'm not pretentious. I'm joking. The Chad & Jeremy mention should have given that away. They're a 1 hit wonder at best, and I thought it would be funnyt to put them on there and then mockingly say this was a definitive list. Herman's Hermits would have been just right. But Chad & Jeremy was just right.

Next time, I'll include a picture of a seltzer bottle when I'm kidding.

Great idea, Noise -- it's time to lobby for a seltzer bottle emoticon...an alternative to that never to be trusted smiley face. In fact, everyone who uses an emoticon should be killed! (Damn, I could really use that seltzer bottle icon right now....)

Actually, we have a Chad and Jeremy's greatest hits here in the office. I've never given it a second thought, but now tonight, after wanting to give it a chance, I find the new girl TOOK IT HOME!! What's that all about?

C'mon, slick, I remember those goofy, cut out records like it was yesterday! (Although I'll be damned if I can remember what bands we got...The Monkees, maybe??)

Had to make itty-bitty tape loops (sticky-side out) to mount to the back of the cardboard to get them to stick to the turntable, instead of just slipping/scritching around...

And I still think pophead is missing the joke. Too bad.

By the way. The most pretentious end to a post on this thread:

I've been anti-emoticon forever. I'd say more, but I'd hate to be accused of pretentiousness.

Actually Noise, I was just reacting with the 'seltzer bottle' to the post above mine. Its just that, like your original post, the 'humor' was lost in translation. See y'all.
