Congratulations the_platypus.

But it narrows my chance down to 1 in 24!!!

Somehow my optimism is waning!

I am right in saying this whole Lupe-O-Tone thing has been created specially by Elvis aren't I?

It's also interesting about the "future releases" comment. That'll be the second single sorted out then. Or the Tour Edition.

I got this message:

Lupe-O-Tone would like to thank you very much for your interest in this
edition.

Unfortunately, your name was not one of the first twenty five chosen by
our "Select-O-Matic" process.

If you should be interested in hearing the music contained on the 78rpm
pressings, a 33rpm double L.P. set of the album, "National Ransom" will be
available for purchase in your favourite record emporium from the 25th of
October (2nd. of November in the U.S. and Canada).

Look out for news of another unique Lupe-O-Tone release in late November."
Since you put me down, it seems i've been very gloomy. You may laugh but pretty girls look right through me.

I got the same message.

For a brief moment I saw the message from Growl at Lupe-O-Tone and thought I'd won.

And then I opened the email.

I'm with you, Sulky. I haven't heard one way or another. I was hoping that perhaps if we signed up to the old fan club that folded and let them keep our $ that perhaps they would throw us a bone (or at least a 78).

Oh well. Take care everyone.

Cheers.

I got the "sorry, you didn't win" e-mail too-- just found it in my SPAM folder...

Looking forward to more cool Lupe-O-Tone stunts like this, even though I didn't win. I wonder how many 78s were actually made? Surely EC has his own private stash of them for friends and cohorts who might want one. My guess is that EC just wanted to do this for his own pleasure, and then decided to take a portion of them to make this raffle.

It probably sparked more demand than if he'd made several hundred and offered them all for sale, I'm guessing. The extremely limited nature of the items was probably as big a draw as anything. Although I hate to think that any of the lucky 25 will simply hoard them and not find a way to play them, as that seems to be the fun of it, right?

I also got the rejection letter! The raffle seems to be a nice way to collect eMAil adresses for die-hards and for pro record sellers mixed. I am looking forward to future offers, give aways, competitions and the usual spam now they got me on the list! And I want to see a youtube clip where someone is playing these gems. Do they come in a pic sleeve nby the way?

The_platypus is going to be our font of all knowledge for all this!

I'm sure other copies of this will turn up. Perhaps the vinyl edition of National Rabsom will have a message in the run off grooves...

:)

I completed payment yesterday. Unfortunately, since I'm all the way in Buenos Aires, Argentina, I'll have to wait 6-8 weeks 'til it arrives, since they only provide the option of regular mail. :(

I too have a pair of 78's in the mail on the way to my house! I feel like Charlie after he found a golden ticket in his Wonka Bar. I sent in requests from each of my family's e-mail accounts and my daughter Alison got the good news e-mail on Oct 14. She's very excited about this, but she did say "So Dad you've "won" a couple of records that you have to pay for and you won't even be able to play them?" "That's right!" We have two turntables set up in the house, but neither play 78's. We'll have to find a solution for that. These records will be treasured in this house!

I exchanged e-mails with Colin who is taking care of the selections and sales. He confirmed that the process is being handled very fairly and cautiously. He also confirmed that the records are 10". I had expected that, but was not sure.

I'll let you know when they arrive. I live alot closer than Buenos Aires.

I was very lucky to receive the "your name was chosen" email. I've never been succesful before in this sort of thing.

Just a wait now of 6 to 8 weeks.

Ahhh, VG, it is not gloating. It's reassuring you that these records are going to worthy homes where they'll be appreciated. :)

My 78's arrived today!! As you'll see in the photos, simple vintage art sleeves, Elvis signed each sleeve and the label of one side of each record, and they are numbered (in my case, 25 of 25). This is an exciting day!

Bravo Jimmie and thanks so much for sharing your photos - the real things don't look a bit like the mock up one I made to go to the Barney Bubbles exhibition sadly !
