Great hat, Elv! Far better than the camel-coloured massive one of late! And glad the 'tache is gone.

(I know this is totally shallow stuff, but look back and you'll see that I've posted tons of stuff about how I love his music, so forgive me this trivia!)

I now wish he'd ditch the hats indoors (outdoors acceptable), and the sunglasses indoors, too, and he'll look great. He can still have a splash of colour with the shirts and ties.

Great hat, Elv! Far better than the camel-coloured massive one of late!
Agree...I also like the hat. I like all the hats, actually. And the crazy shirts, the bright green socks, the purple velvet blazers, etc...bring it on! Elvis is, after all, not a Banker, but primarily a Rock & Roll singer (or perhaps it's more accurate to call him an "entertainer"--whatever). Surely a certain amount of sartorial wackiness is to be expected. Outrageous clothing is the uniform of his profession, is it not? And it's not like he's some clueless doofus who gets dressed in the dark and thinks he's really stylin' when, in fact, he looks like a deranged half-a-pimp. I'm sure he knows exactly what effect his clothing choices have. It seems like he has a bit of sly fun with fashion, too. I have to think he finds some of the stuff he wears slightly hilarious--because it is. It's supposed to be.

Take last summer's Eggplant Fedora, for example...that hat is hideous, beautiful, confusing, astonishing and a laugh-riot--all at the same time (plus bonus points because his little boy picked it out for him to wear). It's a real eye-full, to say the least. And Elvis is absolutely aware of all of that. After all, he's had 30 years practice being Elvis Costello, which is, to some extent, a character played by a guy named Declan. The wild outfits are an appropriate costume for that character.

--------------------------------
And by the way, Neil, I'm editing this the morning after because I was afraid I came off like I was "anti" what you were saying and I really didn't intend that at all when I quoted you. I actually was trying to agree with you, but I'm not always such a good communicator. I'm a huge fan of your posts--mostly because you do avoid the shallow stuff and write so beautifully about the music, which is, of course, the important thing.
So I keep this fancy to myself

Marvelous. I can pick this up when I'm in the States tomorrow. Also, I'm on the hunt for a copy of Hot As A Pistol, Keen As A Blade - is that still in print?
