Elvis Costello & Brodsky Quartet, Bristol, England , 29 April 2009

Post by Deportee »

Wednesday 29th April 2009. St Georges Bristol. PLEASE PLEASE do not phone the venue for tix details as this date has not been published yet and my source will be in trouble. Details should be published in the next week or so and I will get advance notice as I voluntary steward there and am a "Friend" so get priority.

It's a small 520 seat venue and when they played there before in Nov 95, EC did not use a mic at all. The acoustics are reckoned to be the best in the country for chamber music. However as it's a converted church sight lines are a problem in the gallery. Unless you can't get anything else do not buy rows BB or CC in the side galleries as it has a very restricted view. Central Gallery is good and the central stalls are great, Side stalls are mostly good but the cheaper seats indicate a restricted view because of pillars.

I'll post as soon as I hear more.

Still waiting on my "official" email from them - so much for the "advance notice"! I've already booked Glasgow (my home town) as well as it coincides with a Thistle home match. Hope this birds still singing after the footie!

So, the 2009 UK tour takes shape:

Sunday 26th April, Glasgow, Royal Concert Hall

Wednesday 29th April: St George's Hall, Bristol

Where else will they turn up ...... Bridgewater Hall, Manchester? Symphony Hall, Birmingham? Cadogan Hall in London? Union Chapel? Queen Elizabeth Hall in London, Usher Hall in Edinburgh? Philharmonic Hall in Liverpool?

Watch this space.

Just had an update. The tix will not be on general sale until mid/late October as it's part of their Spring Season 2009, unless you're a "Friend" when it opens on 25 September. Tix will be £35, £22, £12 (but very restricted view).

The Glasgow date is part of a Brodsky Quartet Season and St Georges Bristol is a residency for the Brodskys, so I don't think a tour as such is on the cards.

A 'friend' has got me a ticket and comments -

There was no one physically queuing for tickets when I left, but the
phones were ringing. If I were a betting man, I would say that there
won't be any tickets left when the booking opens to the General Public.

Why not just become a friend? It would cost a relatively piddling £30

There are two EC/Brodsky concerts in the UK next year:
April 26: Glasgow
April 29: Bristol
That link is for the Glasgow concert.
Since you put me down, it seems i've been very gloomy. You may laugh but pretty girls look right through me.

A third concert has been added at the London Barbican Centre on 23 April.

Details are here:

http://www.barbican.org.uk/music/event- ... sp?ID=8301

Booking for Barbican Members opens tomorrow (28 October) so get your skates on (mate).

Not the usual London venue (that I mooted back in July), but welcome nonetheless I am sure.

Is anyone here a Barbican member? PM me if you can get me a ticket on the presale.

Tickets to the rabble don't go on sale until 4th November and I will be a couple of hundred miles away on business.

Although I am going to St George's again tonight to enjoy Maddy Prior/Carvival Band I won't book up for EC/Brodsky as I haven't the time as I seek out his appearances all over the universe ...

Happy Christmas and equivalent to all.

Hmm, my crystal ball was clearly not working that day, as I failed to predict The Barbican or The Anvil Basingstoke. Where next though.........

To my knowledge, the/my great musical venue in Bristol (UK as opposed to the land of the red indian before being almost wiped out by european invaders) will scarcely be big enough for DPAM/his fantasy-classical flights ...

I have two tickets for this show but will be unable to attend as I am scheduled for surgery.

I still hope to get to the London show.

Happy to sell to EC fans at face value.

Bristol tickets are Central Stalls B 17 & 18 - GBP35 each. Free postage.
