Elvis in Leeds

Post by Mikeh »

Just saw Elvis at Leeds University. This is the 15th time I have seen him live and it was the very very best! He did Party Girl & Shabby Doll. I am in EC heaven!

Im just looking through an old Guiness book of hit singles and running down the list, last night was like a greatest hits night. He did

Watching the detectives
Chelsea
Pump it up
Radio Radio (Fantastic version)
Olivers Army
I cant stand up for falling down
High fidelity
Clubland
Good year for the roses

Thats only Accidents will happen and New Amsterdam missing from his first flush of hits.
From the delivery man he did
Button my lip
Country Darkness
Theres a story in your voice
Either side of the same town
Bedlam
The Delivery man
Monkey to man
Needle time
Scarlet tide
He also did the monkey speaks his mind too
I thought it would be fuller than it was but everyone there had their moneys worth.

Elvis mentioned that it cost him $300,000 because Steve played 1.5 seconds of Leonard Bernstein on the new record (I assume he means the quote from 'America' on Button my Lip.)

Also, was this the same venue that The Who's Live at Leeds was recorded? I am sure I read it was in The Refectory at Leeds University.

The University of Leeds' press office have produced a booklet highlighting the bands that have played at the University between 1969 and 2006. There is a listing in the back of all the shows that took place in this period. There is a lot of narrative about the famous Who show in February 1970.

You can read it online here:
