Meaning - Mr Crescent?

Post by Top balcony »

Can people help me with the meaning of this one? As a cheapskate I didn't buy the BNI book.
Thanks

I've been trying to decipher the meaning too.

The Crescent Honeyeater is a bird native to southeastern Australia ... is about as much as I've put together. Apparently the male crescent honeyeater is quite a melodic singer. But I'm not following the parlor spinet with only 9 strings.

Starboard lights should always be red, port lights green. The reference to color blue (maybe sad?), and yellow (maybe caution?).

Anyway, gorgeous and powerful song. Might be my favorite of the whole album.

Same for me - don’t understand much of it but love it so much - the best closer since “Riot Act”’

Changing the original subject and not wishing to get into the "Riot Act" argument you could make almost a double album of great Elvis closers. Surely "Big Sister's Clothes", "Unexpected 4", "Favourite Hour", "Town Cryer" and "The Birds Will Still Be Singing" (I could go on) would be in the conversation for top spot.

Sleep Of The Just - surely the best last track?
Next Time Round is fantastic.
I also rather like Go Away.

I'd also put "He's Given Me Things" and "Byline" up against any of those!

Nailed it. “Go Away” is very underrated.

Thanks for sharing thoughts - think this one chimes with me most NP :

I had wondered if it was written about his late parents, which fits. There's a 'landing stage' on the Mersey and the 'confusion' of lights could reference Ross' colour blindness? Whilst EC's written about his kin before ( most obviously Veronica, Suit of Lights, Puppet Cuts his Strings ) I may well be barking up the wrong tree here. However at the end of Liverpool's disastrous gig last year he seemed very very upset not to be able to finish the song, which had me thinking it was a particularly personal one. It is certainly beautiful, whatever the sentiments behind it's genesis.

Thanks

Colin
