Gramercy Theater Wish List!

Post by Charles »

Now that the hard part is over, it is time to dream. This is my personal list of the top 20 songs I’d love to hear live that I’ve never seen performed before. According to the list that was posted I know that I’m getting some of these, but I’d love to see what others would like to hear also. With the exception of the first song, these are in no particular order…

Psycho
I’m Your Toy
All This Useless Beauty
Tiny Steps
Busy Bodies
Sunday’s Best
Smile
When I Was Cruel 1
This Town
I Just Don’t Know What To Do With Myself
Jump Up
Imagination (Is A Powerful Deceiver)
No Action
Goon Squad
Little Atoms
The Other End of the Telescope
She
I’ll Never Fall In Love Again
How Much I Lied
Sleep of the Just

I don't know how to narrow it down to 20, so this is my BARELY edited list of wishes. Some of these are possible -- and even LIKELY, given the format of this 10-night stand and the number of song slots still wide open with 100 songs already off the board...

A Town Called Big Nothing
Almost Ideal Eyes
American Without Tears 1 & 2
The Bridge I Burned
Bright Blue Times
Charm School
Chewing Gum
Clean Money
Coal-Train Robberies

Don't Be Careless Love
The Element Within Her

Everyone's Playing House
The Fall Of The World's Own Optimist
The Flirting Kind
Georgie And Her Rival
The Great Unknown
Harpies Bizarre
Harry Worth
Heathen Town
How To Be Dumb
I Throw My Toys Around
I Want To Stand Forever
If I Could Believe
Impatience (Never before played in concert, and I wonder why? It's such a fun song!)
The Invisible Man
Just Another Mystery
King Of Thieves
Mouth Almighty
Mr. & Mrs. Hush/Mr. Crescent/Mr. Feathers (MEDLEY)
My Brave Face/My Little Blue Window/My Mood Swings/My Science Fiction Twin (MEDLEY)
The Nameless One
Party Party (this is Costello's big chance to spotlight-- and possibly even salvage -- his self-proclaimed "worst song")
Possession
Pretty Words
The Puppet Has Cut His Strings
Room With No Number
Satellite
Shoes Without Heels
Swine
Taking My Life In Your Hands (I've always thought this one would sound great with just voice and guitar)
This Is A Test (will he play the ONLY Wendy James song whose demo has never leaked? He played it ONCE a few years back!)
...This Town...
Tommy's Coming Home
Turning The Town Red
Under Lime
Walk Us Uptown
We Despise You
Wednesday Week
What's Her Name Today?
White Knuckles
Worthless Thing
You Little Fool
You Tripped At Every Step

I want him to play everything from his recorded output, songs he hasn’t recorded, songs he has recorded and never played live and everything else in between.
Who’s this kid with his mumbo jumbo?

Can't believe nobody wants to hear Dr Luther's Assistant.

Funny....in an odd way, as much as Dr. Luther's Assistant was one of his least tuneful songs, it told me somethings. It was weirdly psychedelic, orchestral and a marching tune all at once. It clearly illustrated in many ways the big mixed bag we were going to be acquiring all these years down the road! A perfect b side.

It’s a great song indeed, but more importantly, who’s Chris Kamara?

There is a long list of songs I would love to hear, and I don't even know where to start in compiling that list.

Of greater curiosity to me is who he might have turn up as guests. A duet with his wife would be pretty awesome. Or Nick Lowe? T-Bone? Marc Ribot? Sir Elton or McCartney crash the party? Maybe I'm setting my expectations too high. I don't think its out of the realm of possibility though.

Sorry - originally had typed a bit more but deleted it. No known EC linkage. As per Wikipedia* "Christopher Kamara MBE (born 25 December 1957) is an English former professional football player and manager who worked as a presenter and football analyst at Sky Sports from 1992 to 2022". He became 'famous' for his live match reports back to studio, usually Jeff Stelling. Hence his catchphrase.....

After 9 shows I’ve been fortunate enough to get 8 of my original 20 from my wish list. Here’s hoping for a few more tomorrow night and of course, from all subsequent shows. What a brilliant run it’s been…
