Tokyo Storm Warning

Post by notesrecliner »

“Tokyo Storm Warning” by Elvis Costello is an illustration of an apocalypse, both public and personal as it channels "Subterranean Homesick Blues" and delights in the cataloging of nightmarish images. See the latest from Recliner Notes:

Wow  What a great essay. It's definitely the song where EC does Dylan better than Dylan. Some very interesting images in the lyrics. I feel like Billy Joel's Scandavian Skies is in this same realm as Tokyo Storm Warning too.
Who on earth is tapping at the window?

That is a great read, thanks for sharing! If ever anyone doubts Elvis' abilities as a lyricist I would just quote the first verse of this song, amazing imagery. I still can't quite believe that they had the nerve to release it as a single in the UK but I have a vague memory of EC appearing on Breakfast TV promoting it...
It's not a matter of life or death. But what is, what is?
