ELVIS COSTELLO & THE IMPOSTERS CELEBRATE THE RELEASE OF THEIR WIDELY ACCLAIMED NEW ALBUM, ‘THE BOY NAMED IF’, WITH A 20-DATE SUMMER TOUR; NICK LOWE & LOS STRAITJACKETS TO OPEN SELECT SHOWS

Elvis Costello & The Imposters celebrate the release of their widely acclaimed new album, ‘The Boy Named If’, with summer tour titled "The Boy Named If & Other Favourites.” The first announced date is in Huber Heights, OH on August 6th and the tour closes in Las Vegas, NV on September 3rd. Costello will also return to Massey Hall, Toronto, visiting New York City, Wolf Trap, Denver, Anaheim and many other cities near you with more dates to be announced. Select cities will also include an opening set by Nick Lowe & Los Straitjackets, the first time since 1989 that the pair have toured together.

Costello and his band, The Imposters - Steve Nieve, Pete Thomas and Davey Faragher - will once again be joined on stage by Texas guitarist, Charlie Sexton, who also played the twenty-two date, "Hello Again" tour in October 2021, when six of the then unreleased songs, now heard on ‘The Boy Named If’, were performed for the very first time to incredible audience reactions. In the OC Register, Peter Larsen wrote that "over the course of 26 songs and nearly two-and-a-half hours, Elvis Costello and the Imposters delivered a terrific night that time-traveled across Costello’s songbook, past, present, and future.”

The Imposters have been Costello's bandmates for the last twenty years or as Costello put it recently, "Pete Thomas, Steve Nieve and I have been spinning around like your favorite 45rpm for forty-five years and let's be clear, Davey Faragher isn't anyone's deputy. The Attractions could have no more made ‘The Boy Named If’ than we have any desire to time travel back to the 1970s. This is happening right now in 2022, we are coming at you, big as life and twice as ugly."

Select cities will include an opening set by Nick Lowe & Los Straitjackets.

Costello first met Nick Lowe in a pub opposite The Cavern in Liverpool in 1972 at a time when the then "D.P. MacManus" and his partner Allan Mayes - as the duo "Rusty" - were performing many of the songs Lowe had written for the band Brinsley Schwarz.

By 1976, Nick Lowe was house producer and recording artist at Stiff Records - a small independent label in London. The newly named "Elvis Costello" was their first signing.

Lowe went on to produce Elvis’ debut album, ‘My Aim Is True’, ‘This Year's Model’, ‘Armed Forces’, ‘Get Happy’ and ‘Trust’ in just four years, during which Rockpile (with both Lowe and Dave Edmunds) were part of a U.S. package tour playing between Mink Deville and Elvis Costello and the Attractions.

Lowe returned to the studio for E.C. and the Attractions last album of the 80s, ‘Blood & Chocolate’ before playing bass on “Hurry Down Doomsday (The Bugs Are Taking Over)” in 1990 and then on five tracks of the 1993 album, ‘Brutal Youth.’

Nick Lowe's songs have been recorded by Johnny Cash, Tommy McLain, Sir Rod Stewart, Engelbert Humperdinck and Solomon Burke. His song “(What's So Funny 'Bout) Peace Love & Understanding”, first recorded by the Brinsleys in 1974, covered by Costello in 1978 and sung by Curtis Stigers on one of biggest selling movie soundtrack albums of all-time, ‘The Bodyguard.’

Aside from his work as producer of The Damned, Graham Parker and The Rumour and John Hiatt, Nick Lowe's albums range from 1978's, ‘Jesus Of Cool’, ‘Labour Of Lust’ and ‘Rose Of England’ through his work with Rockpile and Little Village to his extraordinary trio of ballad albums: ‘The Impossible Bird’, ‘Dig My Mood’ and ‘The Convincer’. Recent years have seen Nick Lowe work in the studio and on the stage with the rocking Los Straitjackets, as well as a solo balladeer..

Following her popular guest vocalist appearance with Costello on “My Most Beautiful Mistake”, Nicole Atkins will open the shows in Huber Heights and Buffalo. Nicole’s latest release is “Memphis Ice” on Single Lock Records.

‘The Boy Named If’ was released by EMI - in the U.K. (and The Rest Of The World) and Capitol Records - in the U.S and Canada, on January 14th to rave reviews in publications right across the globe and in the U.S. from the New York Times to Pitchfork. The Sunday Times in London made the album "The Record Of The Week", declaring the record, "Worthy Of Bowie.”

"Songs that kick hard and deep. It’s anything but quiet ... the Imposters sound gleefully, brutally unified.” - The New York Times (Jon Pareles Critic’s Pick)

“Electrifying...A deeply thoughtful blast of rock 'n’ roll”- People (Jordan Runtaugh)

Tickets go on sale Friday, February 18th at 10am local time. Go to elviscostello.com

This is fantastic news!

I've seen Nick with Los Straitjackets a half a dozen times now. Truly outstanding. So I will be going again. Hope to seem some Elvis sings Nick, Nick sings Elvis. Love this version of "Home is Anywhere"

Anyone know what the presale code is?

Also: Anyone been to Pier 17 in NYC? Is it a general-admission venue?

Interestingly, (IMHO), the venues for this tour are quite different to the many historic theatres that Elvis played on his US tour in the Fall last year. It may be to do with the time of year, or a desire to be out in the open-air to help keep the band and the audience safe.

By my count, of the 15 dates so far announced, there is just one show in a traditional theatre (Massey Hall, in Toronto), three more in indoor theatres (Thousand Oaks, Anaheim and Las Vegas), two in casinos and the other nine in outdoor venues - auditoriums, ampitheaters and a roof-top (possibly a first inspired by watching Get Back?).

I guess it is likely that the casino shows in Bensalem and Ledyard will be shorter sets than other nights on the tour, although there is no support act for either of those shows, so maybe that will allow for a fuller show by Elvis, The Imposters and Charlie.

Me too but it's definitely Thursday not today. I checked the page yesterday just to get some other info, and they had no presales of any kind today, they're all tomorrow.

And just to concur with the above post, I've been to Pier 17 (to see De La Soul in 2019) and yes, it's all GA. Nice view of the bridge behind the stage, I think being close to the water helps keep it cooler in the summer. It's quite a walk from the closest MTA station through a tourist heavy area to get there, but there's plenty of shops and restaurants around. Very much the type of area families of tourists flock to in the summer time.

I was able to secure a front row center seat for Denver, and I just discovered the much reduced fan presale cost! I’ll be there!

Just to clear up some confusion regarding the NYC show: Today's presale is through EC's official site (not Ticketmaster). There are various presales through ticketmaster starting tomorrow. Here is the link for today's presale:

There are seated tickets and general admission tickets available.

I've succumbed to temptation and booked a ticket for Las Vegas on September 3rd. Elvis and Vegas just go together, don't they?

I'm flying out from Heathrow on the Friday, staying at the Virgin Hotel - same venue as the theatre, and fly back on Monday afternoon.

I'll be knackered but I'm sure it will be worth it?

Argh, wish I had known that earlier - EC's site actually sold out of GA tix for the NYC show already. I got one through Ticketmaster but they're a little more expensive there ($7.50 more). FWIW, if you buy from Ticketmaster, you get the ticket in your mobile app as usual while tickets sold through EC's site apparently need to be picked up at the Pier 17 box office.

There is a 5 day gap between Vienna, VA and Denver, CO. Hopefully those soon get filled with a couple mid-west dates, which are lacking. St. Louis, KC, or Nashville we can only hope for.

The situation with the NYC presale is a fucking shitshow. Ridiculous.

I paid $240 for a "Premium" ticket. Am I even getting a seat for that, or did I just shell out all that money for a better place to STAND?

I wish he were just playing Central Park, as he usually does.

Pier 17 doesn't have any seats permanently installed. I'm speculating it'll be like Damrosch Park at Lincoln Center (where Nick Lowe once played a free summer show). They're going to bring in rows of folding chairs (probably secured together in some way), and whichever row you're in, you get your pick of available seats. Makes sense as assigned seat numbers for folding chairs would be logistically a bit tricky (probably impossible to get 100% correct), but assigning row letters is doable.

Rows apparently go up to "U" so I guess the GA section is kind of far back. It's the reverse of the Central Park Summerstage set up where all the seats were in the back and the GA was in front, going up to the stage.

Did you purchase through Ticketmaster? Premium seats are a major scam. Non-refundable and I don’t think you can resell them. It’s a sham!

I’m holding out on tickets for the Paso Robles show. I think I will wait until the date approaches to score tickets. Glad this show is on a Friday of a holiday weekend. Maybe get a camping / hiking trip in along the coast after the show.

Paul McCartney on tour, too... So many shows coming up. It’s great to see the shows coming back!

I just read on Facebook that the Las Vegas show has been cancelled.

I've not had any notification yet but the tour page link link takes to to AXS showing cancelled and the show isn't listed on the venue website anymore.

Any idea what has happened? Rescheduled to another venue maybe or is that wishful thinking?

I've paid out £1200 on flights and hotel so I'm really hoping the trip isn't in vain.

Just had an email saying the concert in Las Vegas is cancelled and I'll get a refund in the next 7 days.

No explanation, just it's not happening.

Quite pissed off now as looking at the other US dates I'm not sure I can make any of them, it plus I'm not sure if I can get a refund on my hotel and flights. Might just have to to go to Las Vegas for a weekend.

Elvis (Costello) leaves the building

Elvis Costello and the Impostors’ show set for Sept. 3 at the Theater at Virgin Hotels Las Vegas has been dropped. This was the final show on the band’s tour. A charity event interfered with the show’s schedule. Refunds at the original point of purchase, as is customary.
