I think he has a lot more streams on Spotify.
That are the figures for the artist “Elvis Costello”. See: https://open.spotify.com/artist/2BGRfQgtzikz1pzAD0kaEn
I took a screenshot on January 1 and the song “She” had 58 million streams. Today it has 77 million streams. This means 19 million streams for the first 11 months of 2021.
If i do this calculation for some of the other songs:
Alison: 7 million streams
Watching The Detectives: 3.5 million streams
Veronica: 2.5 million streams
I’ll Never Fall In Love Again: 1.3 million streams

But there is also the artist “Elvis costello and the Attractions”: https://open.spotify.com/artist/4qmHkMxr6pTWh5Zo74odpH
The same calculation gives the following streams for the first 11 months:
Pump It Up: 11 million
Oliver’s Army: 7 million
Good Year For The Roses: 3.5 million
I Want You: 3.3 million
PLU: 3.3 million
EDIWTB: 3.3 million

And Spotify is not the only streaming site. There’s also Apple Music, Amazon,…

https://soundcharts.com/blog/music-stre ... es-payouts

Average Per-Stream Payout Rate, by Source and Platform, USD:

So Spotify pays 0.00318 $ per stream.
So 45.3 million streams means Spotify pays out 143 100 $ to the rightholders (record company, artist, songwriters, producer,…).

I wonder what percentage Elvis would get.

How does any of this compare to what was once paid by radio plays? That is, is this list a list of good news? bad news? neither? There are infrequent chitchats about unfairness, but i really can't put it in any perspective...

...i understand that this might be the only viable type of outlet at all these days...but i'm two and a half steps past "out of the loop"

Elvis owns his back catalogue, so it means he gets most of that money.

Bear in mind that $143,100 is only from one streaming service, Spotify - there are other streaming services, and other sources of income for Elvis.

How professional musicians make money is a source of fascination for me, but I still don't think I've completely got my head around it. I can recommend (Talking Heads) David Byrne's excellent book, 'How Music Works', which has furthered my understanding of it a lot more.
