Thank God that's over! The wonders a spot of JD can work on JD. P or P - he is all of those things and more. For my notes on the evening (though less blush-inducingly effusive on the personal front than the kind Mr Doofster's about me - you're too nice, despite your obvious homicidal tendencies), se...

Well you'd be paying 80 quid or euros at least in Dublin, but at least we're still clinging onto free health care... (for how long though, eh?). Dr J: I've just noticed that you really are a doctor. I thought you were just a doctor of groove. Laughing at the idea of going to the doctor and finding h...

I note that our enthusiasm for Lloyd isn't shared by others here (why not, although his oeuvre can't measure up, he's still a great songwriting talent, and shares with Costello an ear for a great tune, a strong sense of musical history, and lyircs worth listening to...), but just as an update: repor...

And if our league is so stuffed with foreigners, isn't it only fair that some of ours should go the opposite way (although there are no major Spanish or Italian players of course, it's an unwritten law that they think their leagues are the best and won't travel). It was £25m, not euros. But there's ...

Odd reaction, Gilly. Who has gone abroad since Steve MacManaman? Hardly a persistent issue. I'm happy to see him go, he couldn't have stayed on at United after all that. I've loved him as a United player (and of course as England captain, a role I doubted him for but which he has excelled himself at...

As ever, ARL is being the agent provocateur! I can't go for that theory, there's a world of difference between seeing characters on a screen and thinking 'someone typped that' and holding a letter that was held recently by someone who means something to you. Especially if they add a little fragrance...

You're very sweet and a joy to your parents. How come Father's Day is the same in the US and here, but Mother's Day isn't? my father always dismissed FD as 'an American invention'! As I get older, although I have no age hang-ups, I find myself enjoying FD almost more than my birthday. Maybe it's jus...

Oh no, am I going to get evicted for answering incorrectly? Bye folks... 1. David. So many memories. Even though there are 5 LPs I don't own (Let's Dance through to Tin Machine 2), the 70s output is the biz. 2. Declan. There's a fear that Heathen was sadly a one-off, and the next one will be as dull...

Ooooh look, like I want that Phil Collins cd over there in my collection. I am not provoked. You are not upsetting me. You have likened Dame David to Pheeble Phil, but I am turning the other cheek. Don't worry Otis, I quite like Macca now so you're still in with a chance of converting me. I remembe...

... and a dictatorship would keep the proles in their rightful place? Nice to see you again, ARL. My burning question is how come you move around so much and seem to have lived everywhere in the US? I love your newsreader observations! Selective comments on other points: Kids: doesn't mean you think...

I love hearing about Proust's insane life and his cork-lined room. Truly eccentric. Would love to be able to read him in French. Idle hands: good on you, those are two very different but very wonderful books. Joyce is my absolute literary hero, and Dubliners is my favourite collection of short stori...

Anyone got the Bowie at the Beeb CD? A great document, esepcially with the 2000 gig on it too (which, Bamboo, I suspect is the thing you referred to in your Bowie pm that you saw on Oz TV, great tracklisting - starting with Wild Is The Wind, then ashes To Ashes - fucking brilliant - then Seven, etc....

I never got into them cos they were my brother's thing (I had Bowie, he had Zep), but I did once look up in the Birmingham University library (c. 1983) to see Jimmy Page walking hand-in-hand with a girl I'd had an odd and unconsummated crush on (from an Indian Sikh family) who'd lured him at a party...

More of them, even. The editing was a bit wicked on this front: they followed his exceptionally bitter wishing Mike Joyce every sort of horribleness with aa clip of The More You... with that very line kicking it off. Ouch! His friend, with many moments in the show, said he loves noithing more than t...

Shabby: why is no. 10 a reason? Do you like that self-deprecation and lack of celebration of our place? When I went to Spain and met Spaniards, Irish and other people, I was really struck by how much they loved their countries, as opposed to the Brits always running theirs down. Mind you, this was i...

I'm not as far along it, but I'm more down the Noise road than the largely anti-Head feeling elsewhere. The newer LPs will never excite me as much as LPs 2 and 3, but they all have brilliant stuff on them, and I always admire a band who hit critical mass and then make it clear they won't play the ga...

Toke Vog, that's a great LP, especially for 3 bucks! Almost everythinbg the Heads did was brilliant, especially the first 5/6 LPs. So many favourites on that one - Warning Sign, Found A Job, The Big Country, all brilliant, and all still vital. After last night, I am listening to Moz a lot. Ahhhh, Mo...
