Re: A Brief Return and an LA Steely Dan/EC Shot in the Dark

Hi Bobster. Wow, you're back! I remember enjoying your interactions well. Was it you that got horribly ill, or was that someone else? I've a feeling it was - someone who was moderator/hoster/MC on iteration 2 of the board (after Zebrasnake began sending people death threats and the FBI closed it dow...

Elvis singing from the fridge!

Excellent article in yesterday's Guardian where assorted music-related folk chose their fave music books. May of them were unknown books to me, but all sounded interesting to some extent. I wonder which of these books are known and loved to people here? http://www.theguardian.com/books/2015/jun/26/m...

Alright, BBN.

Fair enough, that's a balanced enough response. EC does cut a very likeable avuncular figure in the film.

When you say complete, Otis, I assume you're makiing the presumption that there are recordings of Cardiff and Southampton floating around somewhere ?!!  Well the wiki does state a Cardiff recording exists, but not Southampton. The latter is the only one without a setlist, so I was wro...

Ah, thanks for that. Hadn't heard it before, lovely, and it also has a snippet of Unchained Melody, as per VG's quote.

Re: Thoughts of Detour

Well that all squares of the one measly (if utterly brilliant) show I saw, but why didn't I get to more? (Oh yeah, son at university in London with a £1,600 second year rent deposit to be paid, etc. etc.) A DVD of it would be nice. An additional reflection from me would be that much as I love the Im...

Re: T-Bone / Dylan project: Lost On The River

To my ears, the really obvious standout here is one I wasn't expecting: the irksome Marcus Mumford's rendering of 'Kansas City,' a track that wrings the full measure of what is in fact a top-shelf Dylan lyric. I'm a tad puzzled that that song has not been universally claimed as THE key track of thi...

Re: Elvis plays Glastonbury June 2015?

Ron Sexsmith is playing on Sunday, so maybe Elv will stick around to do Everyday with him! Or maybe, even better, he'll guest at Ron's sure to be remarkable Royal Festival Hall show on Tuesday. Steve Nieve did a lovely guest spot on that very song at Ron's recent Paris gig: JI9z5qTf-yA This will be...

Some great items on that set, and again several new ones to the tour, or played very little. Wish I'd got down there too... New Lace Sleeves, All the Rage, My Little Blue Window... and Kid. I don't know why, but I had a reverie of some sort in my head round about the Cambridge gig of him playing tha...

nice ref on Today this morning to the line-up ranging from Moorhead to the Dalai Lama to Stephen Hawking on the kids stage. Surely there's room for Elvis too. Ron Sexsmith is playing on Sunday, so maybe Elv will stick around to do Everyday with him!

Wow, I never knew Elvis had been inspired by Ms Rippon! I saw her recently at an awards do as compere. She was as elegant and slender as ever, with a pair of shiny silver shoes. no green shirt. This was a British Council event and was being broadcast on their site, and involved her telling a filthy ...

According to the wiki that's the first EVER performance of My Shoes Keep Walking. And (De)tour firsts for Bedlam, She's Pulling Out The Pin and of course Release Me. He's Given Me Things is a nice touch too. Oh, and 'unidentified' doesn't get played much either... Someone has to help us on this one!...

Nick Lowe's I Can Stand Up... indeed! Interesting that he did an acoustic guitar Oliver's Army in S'ton but stuck to the classic EC inlay Fender in Cambridge for the run of three, only using the acoustic for Roses. I was listening to When I Was Cruel yesterday and if only he had played My Little Blu...

What's this "Lighthouse" on the stage setlist? This, no doubt! A couple of touches of 'if only' about the printed set, esp. 'Indoor', but hey. The extra verse in "Shipbuilding" ("A small bunch of flowers is all that you get / and a box to bury the baby") has been aroun...

Splendid evening. Will be interested to know what Sulky and anyone else who's seen other shows thought of it by comparison. It's the only show I'm getting to on de tour, and all of 15 mins on the bike from my house makes it a pretty easy option. Loved the whole show format, Elvis seems to be in a ve...

Thanks for that, Sulky. No complete setlist I can find anywhere, so these nuggets are good (and I'm relying on you to post the full list in due course!). I'm Your Toy is a Detour debut, making the count 132 songs. I Hear A Melody has only been played once, March 5 in Kansas City! Less Than Zero last...

I just remembered to take a look here... I too liked La Petite Mort and saw James at the Corn Exchange, which was a quite remarkable 31 years since I first saw them when they were pretty well unknown, supporting New Order in May 1983. I confess I don't even own it, I just love Moving On, which ranke...

Damn, I was on holiday and celebrating my wife's birthday that day with a special playlist for the car, and totally forgot it was Elv's 60th! I did include After The Fall on the playlist mind, one that goes straight back to our early days together in Spain. Plus we were camping (in Sweden, yay!), so...

Likewise.

As we know, winning/losing the Community Shield is a never a good indicator of things to come, but I have to say that the Arse easily beating City tonight was a great way to get ready for it.

Fascinatingly, Malcolm 'Tipping Point / Outliers' Gladwell chose 'Deportee' on Desert Island Discs today. Couldn't believe my ears - definitely the most obscure Costello release to have been on the show. He also had some other nice choices, e.g. Eno 'I'll Come Running', which I hadn't heard in years...
