Re: Favorites of 2013 in CD

Ouch, nasty 'greengrocer's apostrophe' there. Curious how similar the British lists are and how Bowie and Vampires are big all round. EC & Roots gets some showings (credit to Countdown Kid's influence on American Songwriter list for top 10 listing). Interesting how American John Grant is in the ...

Re: Video for "Tripwire"

Pretty low budget, huh? Compelling up to a point, but maybe it could have had the writing intercut with something involving people or something visual. The whole video is one continuous line, which is a nice conceit. I love the song.

Re: New Gig Thread

Great, great Hyde Park line-up for July 12 next year: Neil Young & Crazy Horse plus The National. I'm booked to drum at my own gig that night but having seen both acts in 2013, and loved them both hugely, I can't complain. Makes me v hopeful that The National will also play Latitude which I may ...

Re: Favorites of 2013 in CD

Hi Richard, good to see you round these parts, and nice choices here. Second glowing ref to Foxygen of the day (along with the Grammy list cited on WUG thread). had never heard of them before. With you all the way with Ron. I have more Fall than I know what to do with, but nothing can match the earl...

Re: New album for 2013: "Wise Up Ghost" (with The Roots!)

Interesting list, thanks for that. Good to see most of my favourites in there (but no Lloyd Cole, insane!). But also a weird sense of 'who the hell are all these people?' I'd say there's about 20-25% in there that I've never heard of, including no. 2 (Foxygen, and I hadn't heard of Lorde before look...

Re: New album for 2013: "Wise Up Ghost" (with The Roots!)

One of the few releases of the year that isn't in there somewhere! how many days does the ceremony last for?

What exactly is the distinction between Best Record of the Year and Best Song of the Year? Two songs are in common. Very odd.

Nice to see my fave album of the year (The National) in there.

I gave it a reference, and I am impressed by it and her, but something stops me from returning to it. Feels like a few plays are enough. Enjoyed her gig, though.

He had no involvement in it, right? I think the link with the clips above said 'supervised by EC and the Roots', but earlier comments contradicted that.

Re: Wise Up: Thought Remixes And Reworks

Was wanting to dismiss this as the sort of completism I can well be doing without, but that sample of Tripwire makes me think I need that version. Sounds lovely, as per Anodyne's comment. Is this even getting a UK release?

Elvis singing in Vulcan! That's bonkers, but interesting enough to keep me there till the end. Keep up the good work!

Ooh would love to see that. I'm on a mission to see all the known Vermeers in my lifetime, and he has the virtue of a very small known output, c. 38 pics, give or take the odd disputed one (and the lost one from the I S Gardener in Boston has to tragically be struck from the list, for now at least)....

My top 10 more or less in order and their standout tracks would be: 1. The National Trouble Will Find Me Seeing them live only confirms their magnificence. I'm not sure there's a better band out there at present. My song of the year has to be: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fSEPs3r1yMk 2. Prefab Spr...

Re: Art Appreciation

Loved the Tate modern's current Paul Klee Making Visible retrospective last week. It focussed heavily on works exhibited in two of his key exhibitions: Munich 1920, which did a lot to grow his reputation, and then MoMA 1930, which did a lot to cement it, as the first living European artist to have a...

Boomtown Rats crowd was like that too! National's was pretty young, with a few wrinklies. Aimee's was quite mixed, but verging on the old.
