Elvis & Emmylou -- Today show (22 July) -- watching?

Hey- Could someone on the East Coast who will be watching give me a heads up on the timing of the appearance so I can get a good recording of it without all the other crap. (Start time -- approx. length, etc...) (It will be a balancing act, as I'll be getting my daughter ready for summer camp...) Th...

I suppose that I am in denial -- I listened to North a couple of days ago for the 1st time in about 6 months and found it to be wonderful.

(You folks will be on your knees, sweating, begging for just a little taste of North at some point in the future...)

Beware -- "A Class Act"

Well, it's official. My copy of "Costello/Nieve -- A Class Act" is dying. It is a dark day for me. Be aware that I take pathologically good care of my music items, and I suspect that this has something to do with the pasted-on label, as it is fairly porous and may be soaking up moisture, (...

Thanks.
I think my CD player is giving out -- shorting out or something -- which is almost better in a way, I guess.

Yeah, the Fillmore show is great -- and the quality of that boot is tremendous, maybe the best of all of them. I was at that show -- my wife's 33rd birthday. (I should add that she was there as well -- I'm not that stupid...) GGMS will always have a special place in my heart as a result of being pla...

"A Class Act" -- defective?

Anybody having trouble playing their "A Class Act" 1999 (on Doberman) CDs? My disc 1 is taking forever to scan on initial loading, and then there's actual distortion on "Alibi", and maybe more -- I couldn't take anymore... It is visually pristine, and used to play just fine. I su...

I can't say that I disagree with you. I was just saying that Dylan's strength wasn't in melody -- not to say that it was sub-par by any means. You are right, to a degree, about Elvis being all over the board with his stylings. But I think that is just his nature, and a product of his prolificness. (...

Mike Boom-

I love Dylan, but he was largely a lyricist.
His strength was not in Melodic Songwriting.

EC has both.

Rope Leash- No chain-jerking involved, and I did not say EC would not exist without the Beatles. I implied, I believe, that he would have had a different incarnation. And given his rather unconventional voice and delivery (particularly in his early years) it's quite debatable to what extent he would...

Rubber Soul and Revolver are 2 of the finest LPs ever created -- and are almost certainly the Beatles best. The songwriting is truly amazing. And the execution / construction of the tracks are tremendous given the Beatles instrumental virtuosity -- i.e., fairly unremarkable, collectively. As a most...

Yeah, I understand what you are saying. I didn't express the point particularly eloquently -- I'm not saying it would have been a major factor in the problem. More than anything, it just surprised me, as I didn't really see Bruce as being that type of guy. What is interesting -- I just remembered th...

Personally, I find any glorification of violence innappropriate. To elevate it to an "art form" is to excuse it. Granted, it is a generalization. But in this context (with EC & Bruce), I suggest that it may be representative of certain character traits in Bruce that may have contribute...

As an avid proponent of the Attractions, I have often felt a "loss" when assimilating Bruce Thomas no longer being "Elvis's bass player". I also had a tendency to give Bruce the benefit of the doubt -- that he was dealing (not altogether well) with a "difficult genious"...

That's from 1977 -- before the "Live Stiffs" tour -- (as he basically shaved his head, just before or early on in that tour -- Oct. '77...) I would suspect that this shot is from June to August '77... Also -- that's the coat that he's wearing in all of those initial promo shots taken with ...

May I be the first to state (in this forum--I'd imagine that it has happened judiciously in others...) that Jim Harrington (see above) is an idiot.

Oakland -- 22 March

It was a very good show. Voice was a little coarse in a few spots, but nothing detrimental to the overall good. Don't have a strict setlist, as I usually do, but will go from memory -- obviously not entirely in order. (I have edited out the setlist I posted, in deference to the now-posted list in ac...

I always liked this song -- although it was played live, at the time, a bit too frenetically -- as was much of the stuff on the PTC soul-revue tour. The demo version -- on the bonus disc -- though not identical in structure and melody, is quite lovely. It's a wonderful compliment to the PTC version,...

Live version of Blue Chair

Can anyone tell me which version of "Blue Chair" the boys are playing on the tour?

Is it the R&B-style KOA outtake/single version?

or

The "pop"-style B&C version?

I suspect that it is the former, given the climate of the CD and tour, but was just wondering...

It seems to be a fairly poor system, technically. I got in exactly at start time for the Oakland show, and immediately it was shown as "Presale Sold Out". I got pissed (off), took a little walk around the house to blow off steam, checked back at about 5-7 minutes after the sale started, an...

That's a pretty standard riff that Burton is using on Glitter Gulch, often used by Presley as a "vamp" while coming onstage -- most often during "CC Rider", I believe.
