Elvis and Nick Lowe to duet in SF in September

A very recent interview to promote a forthcoming Spanish show in Zaragosa included a snippet which Google translates into English thus: Costello regretted not having coincided in time with his old friend Nick Lowe, who will perform here the first week of August. "It's a shame that we have not a...

Re: When was your first Elvis gig?

27 March 1978, Malvern Winter Gardens. It was just after TYM had been released, so most of the set was from that album with some from MAIT thrown in plus Watching the Detectives, which had failed to make it onto either album on their initial release. I must try to put together a list of other EC gig...

Anyone who has a ticket and is travelling some distance, may want to stay overnight in Liverpool. Travelodge are currently offering a double room in central Liverpool for £19 (room only).

Re: UK tour 2010

At the risk of stating the obvious, Richard Thompson is curating the Meltdown festival at the Southbank Centre in London this year. EC is a former Meltdown curator. Meltdown runs from Friday 11th - Sunday 20th June. EC plays Symphony Hall in Birmingham on Monday 21 June, so my money would be on a M...

Re: The Thompson / Costello Connection?

Collaboration may be too strong a word, but following his appearance on Spectacle (some of which is here:)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GJKnk09YuQU

I have a strong feeling that EC will appear at RT's Meltdown in June, in which case expect the two to share the stage at some point.

Thanks for the heads up. Row B, seats 26 and 27 secured for Man (and Woman) out of time. I can recommend a Portuguese restaurant near the venue: http://www.madeirarestaurante.co.uk/ although probably not a great choice for vegetarians. Rather like the Tardis (which now resides in Cardiff) it is bigg...

Re: SPECTACLE APOLLO 2 debut!

Does anyone know if or when Spectacle Season 2 will be broadcast in the UK?

I cannot find any reference to season 2 on the Channel 4 website. Their promotion and scheduling of Season 1 was poor, so perhaps I should not be too surprised.

Re: 'A Room Of My Own - Elvis Costello ' c. 1978/9

The Pope is as infallible as usual.

My manuscript note on the original cutting from The Observer colour supplement dates this to 15 February 1981. The white socks with Doc Martens look did not come into "fashion" until 1979/1980, on the back of Two Tone.

This is a mistake. "Down among the wines and spirits" was not played - the only track he played from Secret, Profane and Sugar Cane was "Sulphur to Sugarcane" . The list on the wiki was compiled by a panel of three sitting in row B comprising myself, John Foyle and Sulky Boy, and...

Re: Elvis on One show next week

Was it just me, or was anyone else impressed by EC's capacity to come out with some Bush-bashing and anti Gulf war statements in answer to what were some fairly bland questions about Spectacle? Who'd have thought, incidentally that EC was big friends with Christopher Guest from "Spinal Tap".

Lou is pictured wearing what I can only assume to be her "Alt Country" shirt.
