Re: Costello & Nieve in concert, Glasgow (Scotland), September 5, 2024

I'm looking forward to this one. A new venue for Elvis. From the top of my head, the Glasgow venues I've seen him at are;
Satellite City
Apollo Theatre
Pavilion Theatre
Tiffany's
King's Theatre
Armadillo
Barrowland Ballroom
Royal Concert Hall

Thanks very much for the tip, Santa will be bringing me this next month.
I had held off from buying the double vinyl version in the hope that something like this would happen!

Re: The Songs of Bacharach & Costello: 4 album set based on Painted From Memory, March 3, 2023

Sadly I have to agree with this. It would be lovely to get this but the pricing is just far too much. I think I'll go for the double vinyl and make do with streaming for the other tracks.

Bob Dylan on Pump It Up

The Sunday Times has reproduced a part of Bob Dylan's new book, where he discusses 66 pivotal songs. It's behind a paywall, but here it is... Pump It Up Elvis Costello This Year’s Model (Radar, 1978) This song speaks new speak. It’s the song you sing when you’ve reached the boiling point. Tense and ...

As a postscipt to this sorry tale, I had been waiting patiently for the signed Rusty CD to arrive as the promised special gift for those who missed out on the show. Someone else mentioned thay had received it so I looked forward to this. Having checked today, it turns out that I'm one of the handful...

This superb song has been on my Spotify favourites playlist for months after it was used as the theme song for the TV show "Mr Mercedes".
I had no idea it was co-written by Mr McManus.

Re: Elvis & The Imposters, New Theatre, Oxford, June 16, 2022

I wasn't at this show but was at Glasgow and Leicester. I understand that casual fans want to hear more of the big songs, but personally I've heard those ones many, many times before so was pleased at the diversity of songs used on this tour. In any event, it's reassuring that my favourite artist is...

Re: Look-Hear-Listen-Now, Edinburgh, May 28, 2022

Just to continue this litany of sadness, I saw him give a great solo show (with support fron Nick Lowe) at the Glasgow Pavilion on 26th May 1989. That was the night when Liverpool conceded the league title to Arsenal in the last minute at Anfield. He made no reference to it at all, as far as I can r...

Re: Look-Hear-Listen-Now, Edinburgh, May 28, 2022

I was one of those who bought the ticket without the cd, I think it was about £14. I'm not surprised at the cancellation and I have to confess that I was conflicted about it as I want to see the game as well. But calling off a show for which your fans have bought tickets and made plans so that you c...

Re: The Boy Named If, new album by Elvis & The Imposters, January 14, 2022

There's no need to apologise for not liking the record. I've read all the gushing reviews and enjoyed the increased exposure Elvis has received with the release of TBNI. But however much I've tried, I just don't like it much and haven't gone back to it very often. Turn The Red Rose Blue is outstandi...

Re: Elvis when you least expect it

There must be an Elvis fan working in the BBC Sport department. After the World Snooker Championships finished on Monday evening, they ran a montage of tournament highlights. I was stunned to hear that the backing music they used was Elvis's fine version of "Getting Mighty Crowded".

Re: Poignant choice of 'Alison' on Desert Island Discs

Many years ago, the presenter Kirsty Young worked for Scottish Television and hosted an evening magazine show. They had Elvis in the studio one night and, when he sang "Alison" with his acoustic guitar, I can recall Kirsty closing her eyes in rapture.

El Mocambo, Toronto; 40 years ago

A personal recollection, if you'll indulge me... I find it hard to believe that the concert at the El Mocambo club in Toronto was 40 years ago. In the UK, we were starved of live Elvis material until then, with only the odd B side and a couple of tracks on the "Live Stiffs" album available...
