Re: What's your best ever EC gig?

I’ve been lucky to attend some wonderful Elvis concerts. I think the best was probably Elvis & The Imposters with Emmylou Harris and Larry Campbell in Connecticut in 2005. But Elvis & Steve with the Brooklyn Philharmonic (Premiere of Il Sogno) in 2004 was pretty amazing. Or Elvis & The I...

Re: Elvis & The Imposters with Nick Lowe & Los Straitjackets, Hartford HealthCare Amphitheater, Bridgeport, CT, July 5,

Great Show!! A lot of highlights; Elvis at the piano for The Poisoned Rose, Shut Him Down was amazing (Michael Leonhart and company did fantastic solos w/Elvis holding his own on guitar), quiet version of Shipbuilding with a great trumpet solo by Michael, Toledo with Bacharach’s signature flugelhorn...

I hear some folks complaining about Elvis performing a lot of new songs. I'm of the opposite opinion. As great as Elvis' 70's work is, I would rather hear him perform newer songs. 11 out of 19 songs in this setlist are from the 70's. Musicians and songwriters do get better with age and experience.

I wonder why Elvis didn't include "(The Angels Wanna Wear My) Red Shoes" from this session. I got a decent recording off of the YouTube video and it makes a very good first track of Alive at Memphis Magnetic

Re: Kodak Variety reissued on turquoise vinyl

I was pleasantly surprised at how good it sounds. I think that the better separation on vinyl helps clear up some of the “muddle” in the mix. Elvis’ terrific vocals show through much clearer than on the CD for most of the tracks. The great Larry Knechtel‘s piano really shines through better as well....

Re: Mighty Like A Rose 2022 reissue on gold vinyl

I know that Elvis might not have been involved in this release, but it does really good - much better than any CD I've had of MLAR. Some songs sound so good that you would almost think they were remixed. I think it just that the separation is much better. I really don't think it is the medium that i...

I love how on an EC album that the song that you like the least ends up being a real favorite. For TBNI, I cringed a little when I first heard “Mistook for a Friend” - now I love it. For Look Now, it was “Dishonor the Stars”. Then there is “In the Darkest Place”, “The Name Of This Thing Is Not Love”...

Re: Spike 2LP REISSUE ON GREEN VINYL

How is the sound? I bought the 2 LP, 180g vinyl of Brutal Youth recently; and it sounds amazing. It is probably the excellent mastering rather than only the analog platform. It made me appreciate the album’s production so much more.

I really like Elvis' cover of Truth Drug on the Japanese import. If I were to put it on the album, I would put as track 10 - between Magnificent Hurt and The Man You Love To Hate. Interestingly, it has a count off in the fade-out like it was recorded at a tour rehearsal. I wonder what else was recor...

I love some of Elvis' guitar "impersonations" sprinkled throughout. Guitar figures in "The Difference" that remind me of Marc Ribot. Short solos at the end of "Mr. Crescent" that sound so much like George Harrison. There are probably more. Elvis has always been a good g...

I did pre-order the CD w/the book. I would consider buying the vinyl, but I know that a 24-bit/96Hz download will be available from ProstudioMasters.com. They already have Magnificent Hurt available as a single.

Re: Spanish Model, Sept 10, 2021 - New release based on one of Elvis Costello and the Attractions most celebrated albums

I really enjoyed it as well on a first listen. Though I was a little disappointed that the Pump It Up (Brutal Remix) was pretty much an instrumental with just the chorus vocals. Part of me would love a complete remix of the whole album with Elvis' vocals. Though TYM doesn't really need a remix - Get...

All This Useless Beauty should be 25 years old on May 14th as well.

The 14th is my birthday, and it was so great getting new Elvis albums on my birthday.

Kojak Variety was pretty close on May 9th, but I had the bootleg for years before it was released.

I really have come to like Elvis’ recent trend of singing in 'other voices’. ‘Maud Gone Wrong’ and ‘What Is It That I Need That I Don't Already Have’ being terrific examples.

I must say, it has been a pretty good year for album releases. To have new albums by Elvis, Bob Dylan, Paul McCartney, Jeff Tweedy, Bruce Springsteen, Rufus Wainwright, Fiona Apple, Lucinda Williams (5 albums so far), etc. in the same year is pretty cool.

The No Flag b-side is the same recording, but the volume was boosted somewhat at the beginning to balance it out a little. The facebook post started really quiet - it might have added to the overall effect though - maybe they should have left it alone. This would have been a great single back then, ...

I couldn't figure out the point of this article. It frankly seemed antisemitic to me. Elvis is now an atheist as far as know. Who cares, and what difference does it make if he has some distant Jewish family history?

But I also bought the 24-bit download from prostudiomasters.com - so I have been enjoying the album beyond crappy MP3s.

Re: What Next For Elvis after A Face In The Crowd ?

With the success of the Helsinki tracks, I would love Elvis to do a solo studio album; like Paul McCartney is doing again with McCartney III.

Of course, I always have hoped for a solo acoustic album as well - just Elvis and a guitar. Even if it is just covers - I Wish It Would Rain is amazing.

In a weird way, the video might be yet another homage to Elvis' "I Wanna Be Loved" video. This time the others don't come into frame from the side, but overlap their mouths. U2 ripped off this Elvis' video twice in a way.

It would be great if the Armed Forces set included a remix, even with a blu-ray with a 5.1 remix. It is all the rage nowadays. Though Armed Forces doesn’t really need a remix - Get Happy!! would benefit from one definitely.

Re: New song “Hey Clockface / How Can You Face Me’, sept 11, 2020

It has already grown on me upon a second listen. I do like it. But is does suffer from a similar problem with "A Voice in the Dark"; where Elvis seems to bend the melody to suit the words a little too much. Plus I end wanting him to shut up for a second and allow a nice muted trumpet or cl...
