Re: Mighty Like A Rose at 30

Definitely in my top 5 Elvis albums. It hit me hard at a very significant and emotional time in my life (aged 21) and had a big impact. All Grown Up, How To Be Dumb, So Like Candy and Couldn’t Call It Unexpected are four of his very greatest. The only disappointment for me was that the tour was kind...

Yes that would be a nice touch. Really saddened to read the news this week about Moles Club in Bath closing down. Brilliant local venue that had survived for many years. A big loss!

Re: Costello & Nieve September 2024 UK tour

Bristol tickets in the presale start at £85, up to £115. Sorry Elvis, that's too much for me.. unless some cheaper balcony seats show up in the general sale on Friday, my 29th Costello show might be some time away yet :( By way of comparison, balcony seats for Squeeze at Bristol Beacon next October ...

Yes, I remember the Shepherds Bush gigs in 96! I went to the second show and the last one. Human Hands and Motel Matches.. :o I should probably add that to my Top 3 :D

Re: What's your best ever EC gig?

Tough question! I've managed to narrow it down to 2 or 3.. Royal Albert Hall April 1999 (Lonely World Tour) - epic 30+ song set and I had a front row seat! Bristol Academy Sept 2002 - absolutely packed venue, blistering set finishing with the most intense version of I Want You that I've ever heard ...

A setlist including Shot With His Own Gun, Party Girl, Kid About It & Shabby Doll shows good taste indeed! Nice one Steve. Makes me even sadder that this tour hasn't visited the UK... :(

Re: Elvis & The Imposters with Nick Lowe & Los Straitjackets, Arizona Financial Theatre, Phoenix, AZ, June 18, 2023

I agree with both Verbal and Psc - prefer more short songs. Let’s keep the punk spirit going- extended solos with musicianship for its own sake is not my cup of tea. Part of the reason I loved Elvis in the first place were the succinct punchy tunes. Disagree. I loved the show in SF. I think EC/Imps...

Re: Elvis & The Imposters with Nick Lowe & Los Straitjackets, Arizona Financial Theatre, Phoenix, AZ, June 18, 2023

I agree, it does seem that EC's shows are leaning towards a more "rockist" approach with extended jamming. I'm based in the UK and saw the show in Bath this time last year so that's my only recent experience, but I wasn't a major fan of the extra guitarist and classic rock style covers etc...

Re: Video from original Spinning Songbook shows?

I've seen the odd clip on Youtube - there is a clip of EC singing Knowing Me Knowing You which I remember was played at the RAH show I attended in 1987 (my first Elvis show!), but I think the film may be from Liverpool? Apart from that I haven't been able to find much else

Re: Tokyo Storm Warning

That is a great read, thanks for sharing! If ever anyone doubts Elvis' abilities as a lyricist I would just quote the first verse of this song, amazing imagery. I still can't quite believe that they had the nerve to release it as a single in the UK but I have a vague memory of EC appearing on Breakf...

Re: Relatively Insignificant EC Stuff. . .

I can totally recommend his memoir "Cider With Roadies" in which he talks a lot about his love for Elvis and his music. So much so, that at one point when they were students him and his mates spent some time following Ross MacManus around on tour and Ross started to recognise them and play...
