Re: Shoes without heels
We're debating degrees of greatness here. Paul Heaton described KOA as the point at which EC raised his song writing game to another level. And then he released B&C in the same year! Incredible

Re: Shoes without heels
Yes agreed on each track. The alternative would have been to make it a double album when such things were deemed unfashionable

Shoes without heels
Surely the most fully realised, great song not to make it onto an album. James Burton on the outro! Always sounds like a 'reply' to lying eyes to me. Unbelievable that it didn't make the album (but the same could be said for King of Confidence and Suffering Face)

Absolutely agree, shades of Andy Gill. One of the most criminally underated guitarists of all time alongside Steve Cropper, Mick Green and Richard Thompson. Still sticks in my craw that The Edge(sic) has never acknowledged the debt he owes to Andy Gill

Re: New release based on one of Elvis Costello and the Attractions most celebrated albums!!
I worked with Robert Kirby for 6 or 7 years during the mid to late 80s when he had little or nothing to do with the music industry. Top geezer. I talked to him regularly about his background in the music industry and he reminisced a lot about Nick Drake and his time with The Strawbs. On the subject ...

Re: Favourite lyrical assonance
Er...I think you mean alliteration. Assonance is as memorably described by Rita in Educating Rita as 'getting the ryhme wrong'. Incidentally EC is a big fan of Assonance : bending words to make them ryhme : it's all we're skilled in, we will be Shipbuilding

Every time I hear the opening of WWHHM I am reminded of What Have I Done to Deserve This. If so surely yet another Dusty homage on Look Now
